Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery (Linh Truong Commune, Gio Linh District, Quang Tri Province) is the resting place of 10,263 martyrs; this place is not only a special national relic but also a "living museum" of the history of resistance, an "outdoor school" that contributes to fostering patriotism and revolutionary ideals for the young generation in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland today.
Gratitude through practical action
In the quiet space, the sound of machines, the sound of labor tools... mixed with the sound of workers, encouraging each other to complete the final tasks according to plan, serving the people to offer incense and flowers on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country. Mr. Nguyen Thuan Hoai, residing in Truong Hai village, Linh Truong commune, the person in charge of the project to renovate and repair the martyrs' cemetery in Hanoi , said: "Taking on the responsibility of renovating and renovating the martyrs' cemetery, we determined that it is not just a simple job but also a small contribution to show gratitude to the heroic martyrs".
Over the years, the Party, the State and authorities at all levels from the central to local levels have always paid special attention to the conservation and restoration of the Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery. Therefore, many projects to upgrade and repair infrastructure, renovate drainage systems, plant new trees, and ensure a green, clean and beautiful environment at the cemetery have been implemented. In particular, with the policy of modernizing cemetery management, the authorities have digitized information on martyrs' graves, creating favorable conditions for relatives and people to look up and search for information about martyrs. To date, all 10,263 graves have been updated with electronic information, attached with QR codes, serving the management and lookup work quickly, accurately and transparently.
Gratitude and memorial activities are also organized on a large scale, solemnly and regularly, typically the program "Candle lighting ceremony to honor heroic martyrs" on July 27 every year, gathering thousands of union members, youth and people nationwide. Many leaders of the Party, State, Ministry of National Defense, Central Youth Union... directly came to offer incense, plant memorial trees and encourage officers and soldiers on duty at the cemetery.
"Red address" education revolutionary tradition
Not only is it the resting place of more than 10,000 martyrs who heroically sacrificed their lives on the Truong Son frontline in the past, the Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery is also one of the "red addresses" educating the young generation about patriotic traditions and revolutionary ideals.
Amidst the sacred, silent space of the vast pine hills and the rows of straight tombstones, every step of the young people coming here is a journey back to the roots of the nation, back to the heroic history of their ancestors. There is no podium, no books, but this is a special school, where lessons of patriotism, sacrifice and responsibility to the Fatherland are deeply ingrained in the heart through each line engraved on the stone steles, each story about the soldiers who lay down their lives in the Truong Son Mountains. Mr. Tran Van Nhan, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery, said: "Every day, there are delegations and individuals visiting the cemetery; on peak occasions, there are 500-700 delegations visiting each day. Among them, there are many delegations of students from schools and localities from all over the country who come to offer incense, commemorate and participate in activities such as "Journey to the source", "Lighting candles in gratitude", "Telling stories of Truong Son soldiers", interacting with veterans... The solemn ceremonies, the vivid historical stories, the tears that silently fall beside the tombstones... all contribute to nurturing the noble ideals of life and national pride in today's young generation".
In the memorial book located at the Cemetery Management Board, in addition to the notes of Party and State leaders, veterans... there are also many short but emotional pages written by students expressing their deep gratitude and promise to live up to the previous generation. That is the clearest evidence of the profound educational value that the Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery brings, a place that not only preserves memories but also transfers the revolutionary flame and patriotism from the past to the present and the future.
