A residential support for the poor

The models of “Dream House”, “Union Shelter”… have contributed to the work of eliminating temporary housing in Da Nang city to achieve outstanding results. Not only that, these models also contribute to adding more determination for workers and people in especially difficult circumstances to rise up in life.

Houses of love

The "Union Shelter" houses in Nong Son commune were built from socialized resources and have contributed to helping the poor stabilize their lives and settle down.

Mr. Cao Dinh Bong (in Nong Son village, Nong Son commune) has been working as a worker at Nong Son Coal - Electricity Joint Stock Company for more than 23 years. Unfortunately, he suffered from an occupational disease, with a disability rate of 66%, his health declined and he could not work or live normally. The burden of taking care of his children and elderly mother fell on his wife's hard-working shoulders. Mr. Bong's family of 3 generations lived together in an old, seriously degraded level 4 house.

Understanding the difficulties of Mr. Bong's family, the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group Trade Union and the Electricity Corporation Trade Union supported him with 120 million VND to build a new house.

“I have been a worker all my life, dreaming of having a solid roof over my head so that my elderly mother, wife and children can settle down, not have to worry about storms, and my children can study with peace of mind. Now, that dream has come true. I would like to thank the care and support of businesses, the government and organizations that have accompanied me in overcoming difficulties,” Mr. Bong confided.

The family situation of Mr. Tran Ngoc Hien (Nong Son village) is no less difficult. Mr. Hien has been a worker for over 22 years, specializing in driving trucks to transport soil and rocks for the company, but due to declining health, he was transferred to work as a security guard for the company. As the main breadwinner in the family, Mr. Hien has to support his parents who are over 90 years old and also raise his children to study, while his wife has an unstable income.

The house, built in 1994 and home to three generations, has been severely degraded. In early 2025, thanks to the support from the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group and the Electricity Corporation, and the joint efforts of the people and local authorities, his family happily received a new house worth nearly 400 million VND.

According to the People's Committee of Nong Son commune, in just 3 years (2023 - 2025), the locality has supported the construction and repair of 11 houses for poor households, near-poor households, and policy households, with a total cost of more than 570 million VND from the state budget and social mobilization.

Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nong Son Commune, Phan Thi Ngoc Dung, shared: “The program “Trade Union Shelter” and the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses have spread the spirit of solidarity and mutual love in the community. The companionship of businesses, trade union organizations and the community has helped workers have safe and stable housing, settle down, work with peace of mind, and join hands to build their homeland.”

Dream house of the poor

After nearly a month of moving into their new, spacious and solid house, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung and his wife (living in My Son village, Thu Bon commune) still could not hide their happiness. Leading us around each room, Mr. Hung and his wife said: "Our dream of a new house has now come true. We would like to thank the organizations, local authorities and benefactors who have helped us have a place to live and stabilize our lives."

Mr. Hung's "dream house" is a residence for 7 members with 3 generations living together. The total value of the project is about 450 million VND, of which CHIA Organization supported 166 million VND, the remaining funding comes from the mobilization and support of businesses and philanthropists.

The situation of Mr. Doan Thanh Luong (residing in Phuong Thuoc village, Tien Phuoc commune) and his wife, Ms. Ho Thi Tuong (born in 1986, a Ca Dong ethnic group) is also very special. Mr. Luong has a disability in both legs. Not long ago, while working for hire, he was crushed by a tree, injuring his cervical vertebrae. Meanwhile, the 6 family members have been living in a makeshift house that is prone to collapse during the rainy season.

According to data from the People's Committee of Da Nang City, in the period of 2023 - 2025, the total budget for implementing the program "Eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses" in the entire Da Nang city is more than 705.8 billion VND; of which the total budget for implementing the program in Da Nang city (old) is more than 82.5 billion VND, and Quang Nam province (old) is more than 623.3 billion VND.

Agencies, units, businesses, individuals... also supported hundreds of thousands of bricks, hundreds of blocks of sand and construction materials, and thousands of working days... to serve the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the area.

Since May 2025, when his family started moving into the "House of Love" built by the Red Cross Society of Tien Phuoc district (old) with the support of CHIA Organization, life seemed to have turned a new page.
