
Mr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Head of the Weather Forecast Department (National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting) has just issued a warning about upcoming heavy rains in the North, localized heavy rains in the Central Highlands and the South.
According to the forecast, in the afternoon and evening of May 20 and on May 21, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms in the Northern region.
Notably, from the night of May 22 to 24, in the Northern region, there is a possibility of moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with total rainfall of 70 - 150 mm, in some places over 250 mm.
From the evening and night of May 23 to the night of May 24, in the North Central region, there is also a possibility of moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with total rainfall of 40 - 100 mm, in some places over 150 mm.
“Warning of the risk of heavy rain (>80mm/3h)”, Mr. Tuan emphasized.
Meteorologists warn that thunderstorms may bring tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds. Localized heavy rains may cause flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes and flooding in low-lying areas.
