Electricity is one step ahead for economic development.

From a place with poor infrastructure, degraded power grid, and only over 38% of households using electricity, national electricity has now spread to remote villages in Hoa Binh province. This has contributed significantly to poverty reduction and socio-economic development in the localities.

National grid coverage to hamlets and villages

In the early years of re-establishment, the whole province had only one town electricity branch, with limited technical conditions, human resources and materials. Thanks to the attention of the Party, the State and the Electricity sector, the power grid infrastructure was gradually invested and expanded. In the period of 1991 - 2002, the rate of households using electricity increased to more than 73%, the power grid covered 175/214 communes, wards and towns. By 2003, 100% of communes, wards and towns in the province had access to the national grid.

With the motto "electricity goes one step ahead" to create momentum for development, from 2020 to now, the whole province has deployed 91 power projects with a total investment of more than 2,025 billion VND. Of which, the electricity sector is the investor of 90 projects, including: 1 220kV power grid project, 11 110kV power grid projects and 77 medium and low voltage power grid projects with more than 1,200km of lines and 535 transformer stations. A rural power grid project invested by the Department of Industry and Trade has also been completed with a scale of over 92km of lines, 45 transformer stations and nearly 1,000 electricity meters, prioritizing serving remote communes.

The investment efficiency is clearly demonstrated in many localities. In Gia Mo commune (Tan Lac), although the national grid has been available since 2003, many households used to have to pull electricity from a distance using bamboo poles. Up to now, the system of electric poles and wires has been invested synchronously, ensuring safe and convenient power supply. Mr. Bui Van Nhat, Ren hamlet, Gia Mo commune shared: "Previously, we were very worried about the risk of fire and explosion during the rainy and stormy season because of pulling the power lines far away. Now, the lines have been pulled to the house, the quality of electricity is guaranteed, there are no more voltage jumps or weak electricity like before".

In Quyet Thang commune (Lac Son), it used to be a "hot spot" for weak and unstable electricity. The 0.4kV pole system did not cover all hamlets, many households had to erect bamboo and wooden poles to pull electricity hundreds of meters away, posing a potential safety risk. In recent years, the power grid has been significantly improved, some new transformer stations have been built, and the electricity quality is stable. Mr. Bui Van Thanh, Tram Chat hamlet said: "Compared to 5 years ago, the quality of electricity has been guaranteed to meet people's needs, contributing to improving the quality of life."

Up to now, the rate of households using electricity in the whole province has reached 99.98%, 129/129 communes have completed criterion No. 4 on electricity in the National Criteria for New Rural Construction. The power system is increasingly complete, power loss has decreased significantly, contributing to promoting socio-economic development and building new rural areas.

Electricity meets the needs of economic development

Not only ensuring electricity for daily life, the well-invested power grid system also contributes significantly to promoting the development of production, business and services. The stable power supply has created favorable conditions to attract investment in industrial parks (IPs), industrial clusters (ICs), develop high-tech agriculture , expand new industries and exploit the tourism strengths of each locality.

According to the master plan approved by the Provincial People's Committee, the province has 8 industrial parks, of which 5 have infrastructure investors. In the period of 2021 - 2030, it is expected to add 8 more industrial parks. In addition, the province has 38 industrial parks that have been integrated into the plan, distributed widely throughout districts and cities. Of which, 10 industrial parks have deployed technical infrastructure investment.

According to the report of the Provincial People's Committee, the total registered electricity capacity of industrial parks and industrial clusters in the province in the period of 2024 - 2025 reached 252.6 MW. Some industrial parks and industrial clusters in the districts of Cao Phong, Tan Lac, Da Bac, Mai Chau, Kim Boi have been planned with capacity needs and power supply phases. In January 2025, Hoa Binh Electricity Company energized Xuan Son Cement Factory; it is expected to energize Hoang Long Cement Factory, Xuan Thien Lime and Light Powder Factory. In the coming time, it is expected to build Yen Quang 110KV Transformer Station in Yen Quang Industrial Park and continue to build a number of transformer stations, increase transformer capacity in a number of other industrial parks in the province.

Comrade Luong Van Phuong, Deputy Director of Hoa Binh Power Company informed: "In recent years, the company has invested hundreds of billions of VND each year to build new power grid infrastructure and renovate and upgrade the power grid in rural areas. Thanks to that, the quality of electricity has been significantly improved, increasingly meeting the daily and production needs of the people. In particular, the company focuses on investing in power systems in industrial parks and industrial clusters to accompany the province in economic development and investment attraction. This is a key, long-term task and is always prioritized by the electricity industry".

Hoa Binh province currently has 12 commercial hydropower plants with a total capacity of nearly 2,000MW and the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant expansion project with a capacity of 480MW is under construction. The 110kV power grid has 10 stations, 16 transformers with a total capacity of 509MW; the medium-voltage power system has a ring structure with 56 feeders with a length of nearly 2,760km; the low-voltage power grid is over 4,586km long.

With strategic vision and methodical investment, the power grid infrastructure in the province has been gradually modernized, ensuring safe and continuous power supply. Thereby meeting the socio-economic development requirements of the province in the coming years.
