The 8th Congress of the Vietnam Athletics Federation (2025-2029) held this morning, April 25, elected a new executive committee of 19 members. Mr. Hoang Ve Dung and Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung were elected to continue to hold the positions of President and General Secretary of the Federation.

During this term, Vietnamese athletics will go through 3 SEA Games (2025, 2027, 2029), 2 Asiad (2026, 2030), 1 Olympic (2028).

The congress identified the top priority task of Vietnamese athletics as building a core force of athletes. Talented young athletes need to be discovered, systematically invested in and oriented to develop according to regional and international standards.

Along with that, maintaining regular training for the national team and youth team every year is also a key task to improve performance in strong events such as short run, medium run and long jump.

A breakthrough direction that is particularly emphasized is to promote the application of science , technology, sports medicine and artificial intelligence (AI) in the selection, training, rehabilitation and prevention of injuries. This is considered a solution to catch up with modern training trends, shortening the gap in level with the continental athletics powerhouses.

Mr. Hoang Quoc Vinh - Head of the High Performance Sports Department (Department of Sports and Physical Training) - suggested that the Athletics Federation and the Athletics Department soon implement a plan to hire experienced foreign experts and coaches to lead the national team. "We have prepared the budget, ready to pay a salary of 8,000 - 10,000 USD/month for international experts. This needs to be implemented as soon as possible," Mr. Vinh emphasized.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Nguyen - in charge of the Athletics Department (Department of Sports and Physical Training) - added that if athletics is approved as a key sport in the high-performance investment strategy towards the Asiad and Olympics, the industry will be allocated about 400 billion VND in the period 2025 - 2045. This will be a big boost to help Vietnamese athletics break through, narrowing the gap with strong sports in the region and continent.
