Rehearsing flood prevention plan, ensuring safety downstream of Dong Nai 5 Hydropower Dam

On August 15, Dong Nai 5 Hydropower Company - TKV coordinated with the People's Committee of Cat Tien 2 commune to organize a drill to practice flood prevention plans, ensuring safety downstream of Dong Nai 5 Hydropower Dam.

Units held an emergency meeting to plan the evacuation of some households and carry out rescue work.

Attending the drill were representatives of agencies and units of Lam Dong Provincial Police, Department of Industry and Trade, Department of Agriculture and Environment, Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department - Lam Dong Provincial Police, comrades in the Board of Directors, PCTT & TKCN Command Board, officers and employees of Dong Nai 5 Hydropower Company - TKV, representatives of Cat Tien 2 commune leaders and hundreds of local people enthusiastically participated in the response.

Practice organizing the evacuation of households out of dangerous areas

The program practiced the emergency flood response plan for Dong Nai 5 hydropower reservoir, ensuring downstream safety in 2025 in 2 scenarios.

Units deploying search and rescue work

Specifically, due to the impact of storm No. 4 with strong winds of level 12, level 13 and gusts above level 14 in the storm center directly affecting the mainland of the Central Highlands region, causing heavy rain over a large area, the average daily rainfall reached 200-250mm in the Central Highlands basin and Dong Nai river for many days, the upper hydroelectric reservoirs discharged floodwaters, leading to a sudden increase in water flow to Dong Nai 5 hydroelectric reservoir.

Organize first aid and emergency care for victims

According to calculations, the inflow to the reservoir by August 15, 2025 can reach the corresponding flood P = 10%, Q is 3660 m3/s and the water level of the reservoir rises rapidly to the normal water level of 288m and tends to rise rapidly. After checking and calculating, the need to release spillway to regulate floods is urgent to ensure dam safety.

Rescue drills, rescue victims

Faced with that situation, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Dong Nai 5 Hydropower Company - TKV had to hold an urgent meeting to come up with a plan to carry out emergency flood discharge work at Dong Nai 5 Hydropower Reservoir.

After receiving information from the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Dong Nai 5 Hydropower Company - TKV. Determining that with the above discharge flow, the water level in the locality will rise rapidly and will risk affecting the lives of the people. Agencies and units in the area held an urgent meeting to plan the evacuation of some households in the dangerous area and prepare for rescue work.

This is an activity that the company coordinates with agencies, units and localities to carry out periodically every year with the purpose of checking, training, improving the ability to coordinate, command, direct and deploy forces of the Command Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue at all levels, practicing response skills of core forces in search and rescue work and agencies, units and localities when natural disasters occur in the area.

At the same time, instruct people to proactively prevent and prepare well, stay calm, and follow instructions when natural disasters occur and when hydroelectric reservoirs discharge flood water abnormally.
