
According to a VNA reporter reporting from Lisbon, during the visit, the delegation had meetings, worked and exchanged with Vice President of the National Assembly Marcos Perestrello; General Secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party Paulo Raimundo; Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ana Isabel Xavier; Secretary of State of the Ministry of Justice Gonçalo da Cunha Pires; Deputy Supreme Prosecutor General Paulo Jorge Vieira Morgado de Carvalho; President of the National Anti-Corruption Authority Jose Mouras Lopes; President and members of the Board of Directors of the Portugal-Vietnam Friendship Association. The delegation worked with officials and staff of the Embassy; met and talked intimately with representatives of the Vietnamese people and community and inaugurated the Vietnamese Embassy in Portugal.
During the meetings, Comrade Phan Dinh Trac and his Portuguese counterparts focused on discussing the situation in each country and bilateral relations; experiences, guidelines, policies and measures in corruption prevention and control; judicial reform, law-making; organization of judicial, procuracy and prosecution agencies; discussed a number of international and regional issues of mutual concern and proposed a number of major orientations to promote Vietnam-Portugal cooperation in the coming time.
The Portuguese side welcomed and highly appreciated the working visit of the Communist Party of Vietnam delegation led by comrade Phan Dinh Trac on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations; affirmed that the opening of the Vietnamese Embassy in Portugal and the Portuguese Embassy in Vietnam in the coming time is a historic event, demonstrating the political determination of the two countries' senior leaders in promoting relations, opening a new chapter in bilateral cooperation; highly appreciated Vietnam's achievements in socio-economic development and foreign affairs and Vietnam's role and position in maintaining peace , security, stability and development in the region and the world; expressed the desire to expand cooperation in potential areas such as culture, tourism, labor, marine economy, green economy and renewable energy; ready to be the gateway to bring Vietnamese goods into Europe, while promoting sustainable infrastructure development projects, healthcare, education, etc. under the Global Gateway initiative of the European Commission and the European High Representative in Vietnam.

Expressing his delight at the positive developments in the bilateral relations since the arrival of Portuguese navigators in Hoi An and Portuguese missionaries in Vietnam 500 years ago until the two countries officially opened embassies in Lisbon and Hanoi, comrade Phan Dinh Trac affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to and wishes to promote cooperation with Portugal in all fields, especially politics, economics-trade, culture and education, and justice; suggested that the two sides continue to coordinate well in organizing activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and soon hold the first meeting of the Political Consultation to review all areas of bilateral cooperation as well as propose specific measures to strengthen cooperation in the coming time.
Comrade Phan Dinh Trac suggested that Portugal, as an active member of the European Union (EU), support the remaining EU countries in promptly ratifying the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and that the European Commission promptly remove the “yellow card” on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing for Vietnamese seafood; thanked and requested the Portuguese side to continue to pay attention and create more favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Portugal (about 700 people) to integrate more deeply into the host society, maintain the national cultural identity and Vietnamese language, contribute to the socio-economic development of Portugal and strengthen the friendship between the people of the two countries.
At the intimate meeting with the Embassy staff and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Portugal, comrade Phan Dinh Trac informed the people about some of the country's outstanding achievements in recent times in the fields of socio-economics, foreign affairs, reform and streamlining of the administrative apparatus and some of the Party's major policies on science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, education and training, people's health care, private economic development, law-making, anti-corruption...; answered some questions and thoughts and aspirations of overseas Vietnamese in Portugal.
Attending the opening ceremony of the Vietnamese Embassy in Portugal together with the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of the Government, General Secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party and guests of the two countries, Comrade Phan Dinh Trac affirmed that the opening of the Embassy not only creates a direct bridge between Vietnam, the gateway to Asia - Pacific, and Portugal - the center of innovation, the door to Europe and the Atlantic, but also brings practical benefits to the people of the two countries, actively contributing to peace, stability and development in each region. Comrade Phan Dinh Trac asked the staff and employees of the Embassy to strive to excellently fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, State and People; at the same time, expressed gratitude and requested the Portuguese authorities at all levels to continue to pay attention and create the most favorable conditions for the Vietnamese Embassy in Portugal to operate effectively, contributing to consolidating and developing the good relations between the two countries.
