Tourists visit the Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument

Ms. Tran Thi Bao Thu, Marketing and Communications Director of Vietluxtour Travel Company, said that many tours to Dien Bien on the occasion of April 30 and May 1 were fully booked early due to the increasing number of visitors, especially tours traveling by plane were "closed".

The reason is that people want to explore and learn about Dien Bien province on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1945 - May 7, 2024). This year, to attract tourists to Dien Bien, the company also introduced new and unique tours. These tours often combine visiting Dien Bien and visiting some destinations in the Northwest region.

Similarly, Ms. Pham Phuong Anh, General Director of Viet Tourism Media Joint Stock Company, said that the company has Dien Bien tourism programs with package prices, including airfare. These are airfare prices booked according to booking series. Up to this point, Dien Bien tours by plane and from Ho Chi Minh City - Dien Bien have also stopped receiving guests due to full sales. Compared to previous years, car tours from Hanoi - Dien Bien of many veteran groups coming to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory have also nearly doubled compared to the same period.

"This year, the demand for tourism in Dien Bien has increased for many reasons. First of all, due to the effect of the promotional program of Dien Bien province in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hanoi in 2023, so tourists from other provinces know about many meaningful commemorative activities and have registered to buy tours to visit, travel and attend the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory. In addition, Dien Bien tourism has also invested in cultural and historical sites to create new tourism products. In particular, the tour to learn about history combined with visiting cherry blossom gardens is attracting tourists...", Ms. Pham Phuong Anh added.

Ho Chi Minh City tourists listen to a tour guide introduce the battle at Hill A1 during the Dien Bien Phu battle.

Most of the tours that companies have been offering are 2-day tours to Dien Bien by car from Hanoi, by plane from Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hanoi...; long-term tours by plane from Ho Chi Minh City with destinations Dien Bien - A Pa Chai - Moc Chau 4 days 3 nights (about 8 million VND), Mai Chau - Moc Chau - Son La - Dien Bien - Lai Chau - Sapa 5 days 4 nights (about 9 million VND), Mai Chau - Moc Chau - Son La - Dien Bien - Lai Chau - Sapa - Yen Bai - Mu Cang Chai 6 days 5 nights (about 10 million VND)....

However, representatives of travel companies said that the current limitation of Dien Bien destination is the small number of accommodation services, so travel companies have a hard time choosing suitable accommodation according to customers' standards.

Ms. Phuong Anh said that the company had to book rooms in Dien Bien from March to meet the demand of tourists coming here. In addition, the company also introduced tourists to choose places to rest such as homestays, motels... Currently, famous tourist attractions in Dien Bien are loved by many tourists such as the landmark of the Vietnam, Laos, China border: A Pa Chai; historical sites in the Dien Bien Phu battle...

To meet the needs of people and tourists coming to Dien Bien during the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory, airlines have also announced to double the frequency of flights to Dien Bien from May 3. Specifically, Vietjet increased the frequency of flights between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Dien Bien to 28 flights/week. Accordingly, the Hanoi - Dien Bien route will increase to 14 flights per week from May 3 to 11, in addition to the 14 flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Dien Bien per week that the airline is currently operating.

Similarly, Vietnam Airlines also increased the peak flight frequency to serve the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory to operate 3 more flights per day, from Hanoi to Dien Bien and vice versa from May 3 to 8. Currently, Vietnam Airlines is operating flights between Hanoi and Dien Bien with a frequency of 11 flights per week, a sharp increase compared to the initial period when Dien Bien airport was just reopened.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dien Bien province, the province currently has 205 tourist accommodation establishments with nearly 2,800 rooms and about 5,100 beds. This number is quite modest compared to the needs of tourists during the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory. Therefore, to meet the needs of tourists, the province also encourages households to register for accommodation services during this peak period. However, these establishments must comply with accommodation conditions, meet security and order, fire prevention and fighting, and tourism facilities and services.

Up to now, the province has had 102 households registered and meeting the conditions for providing accommodation for tourists in Dien Bien Phu city and Dien Bien district, including both built houses and stilt houses with the capacity to serve about 1,380 people.
