The figures make Mai the highest-grossing Vietnamese-made film of all time on two continents. Entering its third weekend of international release, Mai now has a global box office of $23 million.
Director Tran Thanh's film made a big splash in Vietnam with 21 million USD. In North America, the film earned 1.66 million USD and in Europe 341 thousand USD.

Before Mai , Tran Thanh's first film - Bo Gia - also distributed by 3388 Films, held the record for a Vietnamese-produced film with 1.3 million USD in revenue in North America after 8 weeks of release in 2021. However, Mai quickly surpassed Bo Gia .
Thien A. Pham, CEO of 3388 Films, told Deadline : "Mai hitting $2 million at the international box office is a complete game changer and we are very excited. Three years ago, $1 million at the US box office was unheard of. By 2024, $2 million in North America and Europe is almost unimaginable. Our mission has always been to expand the market and attract new audiences to Vietnamese films. Mai 's international box office success shows that 3388 Films can definitely reach both overseas and international audiences. This energizes us to support the growth of Vietnamese and Southeast Asian films."
After breaking the all-time highest-grossing record in Vietnam, Tran Thanh's hit romance film Mai has now set a new milestone, becoming the first Vietnamese film to gross $2 million when released outside its home market.
Starting March 22, distributor 3388 Films released the film starring Phuong Anh Dao/Tuan Tran in nearly 200 theaters in 9 countries across North America and Europe, marking the widest same-day release ever for a Vietnamese film across two continents.

In its opening week, Mai surpassed two previous opening record-holders also directed by Tran Thanh, Bo Gia (reaching 320.5 thousand USD in 2021) and Nha Ba Nu (440.7 thousand USD in 2023).
Thien A. Pham, founder of 3388 Films, commented: "The company is highly focused on building and laying the foundation for new markets to help Vietnamese and international films reach their intended audiences faster. When Mai opened to $1 million, it represented not only a global box office success but more than that, this achievement was an optimistic hope for the opportunity to distribute Vietnamese and Southeast Asian films to the global theatrical market. We believe that the platform that 3388 Films is building will benefit not only Vietnamese films but also films from other Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia."
