Lien Chieu District Farmers' Association has 7,735 members, most of whom make a living from such occupations as: animal husbandry, farming, forest care, gardening, near-shore fishing, small-scale trading... Economic life is relatively stable; members enthusiastically participate in activities, unite to share experiences, help each other, and work together towards the goal of sustainable economic development.

In recent times, the District Farmers’ Association has clearly identified the key role of branches and professional associations in gathering and mobilizing members to participate in economic development, increase income and stabilize life. Accordingly, it focuses on building, consolidating and developing branch and professional association models in a practical, effective and appropriate manner to meet the practical needs of members.

In 2024, the association established 18 new groups and 2 professional farmer branches, 3 cooperative groups (safe vegetable growing in Bau Tram Hoa Hiep Nam, civet farming in Hoa Hiep Bac and bean sprout growing in Hoa Minh), 2 clubs; mobilized 250 members to join cooperative groups and cooperatives; 100% of farmers' association officials and branch heads were trained in knowledge and skills. In addition, vocational training was provided to 593 officials and members to improve their qualifications and skills. As a result, the whole district had 767 farmer households recognized as "Good farmers in production and business" at all levels. Of which, 474 households achieved the title at ward level, 232 households at district level, 58 households at city level and 8 households were proposed to be recognized as Central level.

In early 2024, the association coordinated with the District Economic Department to support farmers with 2.5 tons of fertilizer, 1.3 tons of vegetable and flower seeds, and 1.2 tons of pesticides. Thereby, implementing an agricultural production support program in the Bau Tram Lake area, to encourage reclamation and utilization of vacant land in unexploited projects to grow safe green vegetables, contributing to job creation and environmental protection.

Accordingly, 60 households participating in the program include 40 households belonging to the Bau Tram Lake vegetable and flower growing cooperative and 20 households cultivating on vacant land. The cultivated area of the households is currently over 6 hectares. In addition, we continue to survey and propose support for vegetables including: mustard greens, sweet cabbage, water spinach, lettuce, coriander, water spinach, amaranth, eggplant, jute mallow, etc.

In addition, the District Farmers' Association promoted the organization of training courses, fostering knowledge, management skills and association organization activities with 14 sessions; guiding members to access new technology, use social networks, e-commerce platforms; coordinating with functional departments to organize fairs to promote and introduce products, in addition, supporting branches and associations to expand links in production and consumption of products. Thereby, raising awareness among members about the role and benefits of professional associations, creating motivation for farmers to proactively participate, stick together and develop the organization step by step so that members understand the importance of developing the collective economy.

In particular, organizing a training conference on digital transformation, bringing Lien Chieu's typical OCOP products to the e-commerce platform for 180 members; coordinating with the District Health Department to organize a training conference on food hygiene and safety; training on occupational safety and hygiene using the action education method. Over the past year, the District Farmers' Association visited and surveyed fruit tree models, banana gardens, coconut gardens, wild boar farms, O Long and Huong Lang Co fish sauce villages, shrimp and crab farming ponds, etc. Thereby, supporting and guiding members and farmers to develop new agricultural production models, linkage and cooperation models, creating efficiency in agriculture.

According to the Chairman of the Farmers’ Association of Lien Chieu District, Le Duy Hoa, members participating in the collective economy are provided with training opportunities, improving their knowledge of production processes, applying science and technology, helping to increase productivity and improve product quality. This is considered an effective solution to restructure production, form linkage chains, and help farmers improve agricultural economic efficiency.

However, the activities of branches and professional associations still face some difficulties such as: lack of capital, lack of production space, uneven management level... To overcome these difficulties, in the coming time, the District Farmers' Association will continue to promote propaganda work, raise awareness for members; closely coordinate with departments and organizations to support members in developing the economy in a stable and effective manner.
