The Japanese Women's Team got off to the perfect start with a resounding 5-0 victory over the Zambia Women's Team in their opening match of Group C at the 2023 Women's World Cup.
Hinata Miyazawa (double) along with Mina Tanaka, Jun Endo and Riko Ueki took turns "breaking the net" of Zambia to bring victory to the Japanese representative.
This result accurately reflects the match's development when Japan proved to be too strong for the team with the lowest ranking among the 32 teams participating in the 2023 Women's World Cup.
This is also the match with the most goals after 7 matches that took place at the World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand.
With this result, the Japanese Women's Team has the same 3 points as the Spanish Women's Team, but temporarily tops Group C thanks to a better goal difference.
Earlier, the Spanish Women's Team defeated the Costa Rica Women's Team 3-0, thanks to goals from Del Campo (own goal), Aitana Bonmatí and Esther González.
In the second match of Group C (July 26), the Japanese Women's Team will face Costa Rica while the Spanish Women's Team will face Zambia.
This means that the Japanese Women's Team and the Spanish Women's Team will both soon enter the knockout round if they both win in the second round.
In the match that just ended, Japan dominated the game and created a lot of pressure, but it wasn't until the 42nd minute that they were able to penetrate Zambia's net after Hinata Miyazawa's shot.
In the second half, Nhat Ban continued to play aggressively and doubled the gap to 2-0 after an easy tap-in by Mina Tanaka.
Before this goal, Mina Tanaka also put the ball into Zambia's net twice but both were disallowed after the referee asked for help from VAR.
With a 2-goal lead, Japan played with more excitement before scoring 2 more goals by Endo Jun and Miyazawa Hinata.
In the last minute of extra time, Japan was awarded a penalty and played with one more player after Zambian goalkeeper Musonda committed a foul in the penalty area and was sent off.
On the 11m mark, Riko Ueki had to take a penalty kick again to take advantage of the opportunity to score the decisive goal in a 5-0 victory for Japan over Zambia.
