Vietnam women's team lacks good personnel due to injuries
The "anchor" midfielder of the Vietnam Coal and Minerals Club is an important factor in the squad of coach Mai Duc Chung, but cannot participate in the Southeast Asian tournament because he needs at least 3 months of recovery. Thus, Mr. Chung currently has only 3 combative central midfielders, including Duong Thi Van, Thai Thi Thao and Tran Thi Hai Linh.
Difficulties also appeared in other lines. In defense, Chuong Thi Kieu could not participate due to not recovering. And in attack, Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung retired, leaving a creative gap. In the preliminary training force in Japan, there are only 3 players considered young in the Vietnamese women's team, namely Vu Thi Hoa ( Hanoi Club), Ngoc Minh Chuyen (Thai Nguyen Club) and Ngan Thi Thanh Hieu (Ninh Binh Department of Culture and Sports).
The remaining players in the hands of coach Mai Duc Chung are the faces who have played in the World Cup, ASIAD, and Olympic qualifiers. Taking advantage of the experience of the veteran players is a familiar strategy that Mr. Chung will apply at the 33rd SEA Games.
At the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnamese women's team was in the same group as Myanmar, the Philippines and Malaysia. Myanmar and the Philippines are both championship candidates. The difficult group required coach Mai Duc Chung and his team to concentrate from the opening round, as any mistake would lead to early elimination.

Therefore, taking advantage of the experience of the pillars is a safe solution for coach Mai Duc Chung. He shared with Thanh Nien: "The Vietnamese female players have faced France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, the US, Australia, Japan... so they have enough courage to overcome difficulties, that is the spirit of Vietnamese women. We are not as tall as our opponents, but we are skillful, technical, and use flexibility to create our own advantages." However, in the context of opponents becoming faster and stronger, especially the Philippines with a "African" squad of European and American origin that is upgraded every year, the Vietnamese women's team has a response plan.
Duong Thi Van and her teammates have carefully prepared their tactics, especially in terms of physical strength, when the players practice hard with the strict endurance and strength exercises of the coaching staff. Coach Mai Duc Chung requires his students to practice physical strength to run and fight stronger. Facing superior opponents, the Vietnamese women's team is practicing how to deploy the ball quickly, handle it neatly and quickly, and rotate the ball at speed to limit falling into unequal power struggles. Lessons from the World Cup and Olympics help the Vietnamese women's team understand the role of speed and flexibility, but how to practice physical strength and physique when the women's tournament only plays less than 20 matches per year is an obstacle for Mr. Chung and his students.
However, the Vietnamese women's team is no stranger to "reversal". 4 consecutive gold medals from 2017 to now demonstrate the perseverance and endurance of many generations of Vietnamese women players. Every tournament has its challenges, but the more so, the more valuable the championship is.
The Vietnamese women's team is taking advantage of the long-term training session (including a trip to Japan) to perfect their playing style. The reform has begun with the old people, where the hope of defending the title will be lit up by the daily persistent efforts of the "diamond girls".
