Not only do they become more stubborn, they also start to form personal relationships that their parents don’t really understand, often hang out with friends after school and sometimes neglect their studies. They want to be independent, go to school by themselves without their parents taking them. Sometimes they even disobey their parents and have an indifferent attitude when scolded…
Ms. Le Thi Nga (in Cho Gao district) whose daughter is in 6th grade said that recently, her daughter has had many obvious changes in her psychology. From a cheerful girl who often talked to her mother about school, she has gradually become quiet, irritable and especially more sensitive to her appearance.
“I was worried about how to help my child feel comfortable and confident again. Through the communication session, I have gained more knowledge and skills in talking, as well as approaching and being close to children. I will try to create conditions for my child to play, help him become closer to his parents and relieve stress after school hours,” Ms. Nga expressed.
During adolescence, children tend to assert their “ego”, seek independence and expand their social relationships. It is important that parents listen, accompany and guide instead of strictly controlling, helping their children build a correct awareness of responsibility and balance between studying, friendship and personal life.
Accompanying your child is not only spending time talking and understanding their feelings, but also equipping them with scientific knowledge about their psychological development, emotional management skills and coping with changes during this period. Most importantly, grandparents and parents should not control but become trustworthy companions, helping their children overcome puberty confidently and positively.
