The impact of storm Yagi (storm No. 3) caused the water level of the Bui River to rise, overflowing the dike and flooding the rice fields of many communes in Chuong My district, of which My Luong commune had a large area of rice fields severely flooded. The flood occurred at harvest time, the entire yellow rice field was submerged in water. At this time, people began to search for rice in places where it was completely submerged or fell down, to find as little as possible. Ms. Le Thi Thanh's family in Khon Duy village (My Luong) planted one acre of rice, but now due to flooding they can only harvest one acre. The rice grains that are saturated with water will be crushed when milled and will not taste good. My Luong farmers go to the village road to collect rice to dry. The rice grains are heavily soaked with water and difficult to dry. On the left of the photo are the fields that are completely submerged, the fields that are not completely submerged (on the right) must be harvested early to avoid the rice being submerged for a long time. Most households have to harvest by hand because the rice plants are submerged in water. Only a few fields are slightly flooded so that machines can be used to harvest. People in My Luong said that since 1971, this is the second time the Bui River has flooded this high, and the rice that was almost ripe and had not been harvested yet is considered a total loss. Ms. Le Thi Thanh (Khôn Duy village, My Luong) said that if it were the right season, the harvest would be at the end of August or the beginning of September of the lunar calendar, but now the young rice must be harvested. People wade through chest-deep rice fields to pick rice, and pull boats to transport it. According to statistics of Chuong My district, the flooded and fallen rice area is 2,793.8 hectares, corn and various vegetables are flooded and fallen is 414.2 hectares, fruit trees are affected is 775.6 hectares, and 42,397 square meters of barns are flooded... Panoramic photos show that many rice fields in My Luong commune are still submerged, although the water has begun to recede for several days now. In the whole Chuong My district, there are currently 22,930m of dikes flooded; 80m of landslides; 33,860m of rural roads flooded; 23m of landslides; 5 schools flooded; 54 villages flooded; 21,709 people affected. The fields were submerged in water.
