Mentioning the journey of overcoming difficulties and rising up of Mr. Nguyen Van Gan (born in 1963), residing in Dong Nhan village, Dong Viet commune, most people in the village and commune know and admire.

According to Mr. Gan, his wife passed away when his daughter was in college. He was in poor health, so life for the father and daughter was difficult. In 2022, from the livelihood support project under the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction, he received support of 15 million VND.
From the support money, he borrowed more from relatives to buy a pair of breeding cows (mother cow and 2-month-old calf) worth 29 million VND. At the end of 2022, he sold the calves, earning nearly 20 million VND. “Luckily, I bought a good mother cow, from 2022 until now, I have had a calf sold every year. With income, I have the conditions to raise my child, who has now graduated from university and found a job with a stable income,” Mr. Nhan confided.
According to statistics, from the capital source of the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, from 2021 to now, Dong Viet commune has more than 100 households accessing support resources to develop their family economy . From the livelihoods given, many households have risen out of poverty. According to statistics, in the period of 2021 - 2025, the poverty rate of the commune decreased by an average of 1.5% per year. Currently, the number of poor households in the commune is 54, the poverty rate is 0.82%. Ms. Nguyen Thi Khe (born in 1949), Dong Nhan village shared: "My family has many people, but little land for production, so for many years, poverty has been persistent. In 2022, the locality gave a breeding cow, my family was motivated to rise up, and now we have escaped the list of poor households".
Sharing experiences in implementing poverty reduction work in the locality, Mr. Tran Van Quang, Head of the Department of Culture and Society of Dong Viet commune, said that, together with resources from the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, the locality effectively implemented mechanisms and policies to support production and improve the lives of poor and near-poor households. To have more resources to support poor and near-poor households, the People's Committee of the commune assigned the entrusted associations and organizations to coordinate with the Social Policy Bank to review the borrowing needs of households to provide loans in a timely manner.
In the coming time, Dong Viet commune will focus on raising people's awareness to proactively promote internal strength and strive for economic development. Associations and unions will continue to coordinate with the Social Policy Bank to effectively implement credit programs. Pay attention to consulting and supporting people to effectively use loan capital to develop the economy, stabilize their lives, and escape poverty sustainably. For households receiving livelihood support under the project of the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, the People's Committee of the commune will assign specialized staff to monitor, guide technical care, disease prevention and model replication.
“To change people’s awareness, we have increased communication on poverty reduction policies, promptly promoted typical examples, effective poverty reduction models, and large programs and projects to attract workers in the commune. Thereby, contributing to job creation, income increase and sustainable poverty reduction, especially for workers in poor households, near-poor households and newly escaped poverty households,” said Mr. Tran Van Quang.
