On June 7-8, more than 103,000 students in Hanoi completed the Math, Literature and Foreign Language (mostly English) exams to get admission scores for non-specialized public grade 10 schools. According to subject teachers, this year's exam has clear innovations, approaching the new generaleducation program, increasing practicality but still ensuring it is suitable for students' abilities.

Commenting on the Literature exam, Ms. Lam Kieu Ninh, a Literature teacher at Dong Da Secondary School, shared that this year is the first time the exam does not use materials from textbooks, contributing to reducing dependence on sample texts and limiting the situation of mechanical memorization.

"Although the material is outside the textbook, the works included in the exam are very familiar, highly educational, evoking family affection and social responsibility, helping students freely express their emotions," said Ms. Ninh.

Ms. Nguyen Thao Linh, a Literature teacher at Co Loa High School, assessed that this year's Literature exam was within the range of her ability, in line with the expectations of both her and her students, reflecting the spirit of program innovation and the psychology of the students' age.

Ms. Linh predicts that the score range will be around 6.5-7.5 for students with average ability, who know how to develop arguments clearly and possess relatively good writing skills. For students with sharp thinking and the ability to express emotions clearly, a score of 8-8.5 is completely feasible. However, to achieve a score of 9 or higher, students need to have depth in literary appreciation and demonstrate truly impressive and convincing expression.

Regarding Math , Mr. Tran Van Tuan, a teacher at Chu Van An High School for the Gifted, commented that although this year's exam has a new structure, it ensures the requirements for evaluating students, is easy, and does not pose any puzzles. Questions 1, 2, and 3 are mostly about applying knowledge and understanding, so it is not difficult for candidates to get points. For students with average academic ability, it is easy to get 5 points in the first three questions. The exam begins to increase in difficulty in questions 4 and 5.

Teacher Tuan is most interested in question number 5, finding the largest and smallest values. This is a problem that requires students to model from reality to solve the problem. The male teacher predicts that the average score for Math this year will be slightly higher than last year, and the standard score for admission to schools may also increase.

Mr. Nguyen Do Chien, a Math teacher at Nghia Tan Secondary School, assessed that this year's exam was basic and had good classification in the 8-9 point range. The common score range will be from 7.5-8 points.

Meanwhile, for English, Ms. Le Van Anh, a Foreign Language teacher at Nghia Tan Secondary School, said that this year's exam closely followed the basic knowledge of the curriculum, and the structure was quite similar to the sample exam format. With this exam, many candidates will score 8-8.5. However, to get 9 or higher, students must be very careful and thorough in the process of doing the test.

"I think there is no such thing as a rain of 10s. To get a 10, students need to be careful in analyzing the questions, checking vocabulary, grammar, and word position in sentences," said Ms. Le Van Anh.

Overall assessment based on the three-subject exam, the Vice Principal of a high school in Hoang Mai district said that compared to last year, the expected benchmark score for entering grade 10 this year in Hanoi will increase slightly, from 0.25 to 0.5, especially at top schools.

"This year's exam was designed closely to the published competency table, so many students did well. This predicts that the benchmark score will tend to increase, an impact that can be easily seen," he said, emphasizing that all current predictions are for reference only.

Candidates need to wait for the official answers and marking instructions from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, because the benchmark score of each school depends on the number of registered wishes, the competition rate and the quality of candidates.

A notable new point in the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi this year is the adjustment in the calculation of admission scores. Instead of multiplying the coefficient by 2 for Math and Literature as in previous years, this year the admission score will be the total score of 3 subjects (Math, Literature, Foreign Language), each subject is calculated on a 10-point scale and does not multiply the coefficient.

According to the plan of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, from June 9 to June 22, the examination board will mark multiple-choice tests. From June 11 to June 22, the examination board will mark essay tests.

It is expected that around July 4-6, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will simultaneously announce the exam scores and grade 10 benchmark scores. Successful candidates will confirm their enrollment from July 10-12.
