The opening of one lane on this important route has freed hundreds of vehicles from 21 landslides that have blocked traffic in the Lo Xo Pass area since October 26.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Director of Highway QLDB III, said that the construction teams are focusing on handling the deeply buried locations. If the weather does not worsen, the remaining 3 landslide points in the North direction (to Da Nang ) on the Ho Chi Minh route are expected to be fully opened to traffic by 9:00 p.m. tonight.
The stormy weather in the Central region in recent days has seriously affected the traffic infrastructure. Since October 26, the Ho Chi Minh road section through Lo Xo Pass has had about 36 landslides. The National Highway 3 has mobilized all forces to coordinate with the local authorities to stay on the pass, mobilizing more than 30 mechanical equipment including excavators, bulldozers, dump trucks, along with dozens of officers, engineers and workers on duty at the scene.
The construction teams were divided into many groups, working day and night, trying to clear the route to serve the travel and freight needs of the Central Highlands region. By the morning of October 30, many landslide points had opened one lane to traffic, in which, Km1408 was the most serious landslide location with an estimated volume of rock and soil of about 20,000m3.
