According to the draft decree regulating preferential allowances for civil servants and employees in public schools announced by the Ministry of Education and Training on May 13, preschool teachers will have their allowances increased from 35% to 45% in favorable areas and up to 80% in areas with especially difficult socio-economic conditions.

This is not only material support but also recognition and spiritual encouragement, contributing to adding motivation to those who are involved in caring for andeducating students at the early stages of their lives.

Ms. Hoang Thi Van (born in 1982, Son Loc Kindergarten, Can Loc) said: “Preschool teachers are under a lot of pressure and hard work. Not only do they organize teaching activities, but they also have unnamed tasks such as: cleaning the classroom, cleaning the children, feeding and sleeping the children, ensuring the health and safety of the children... all happen every day, while the income is low. Therefore, the information about the adjustment of preferential allowances for preschool teachers makes us very happy. After 23 years of working, if the preferential allowance is increased by 10%, my income will increase by more than 850 thousand VND. And what makes me even happier is seeing my profession respected and recognized.”

Having been involved in preschool education for 38 years - since the classes were held at the village hall, Ms. Pham Thi Huong - Vice Principal of Son Loc Kindergarten (Can Loc) has now turned 55 and has held a management position for more than 20 years. If her allowance is increased, Ms. Huong will have an additional income of more than 1.2 million VND per month.

“The salary coefficient of preschool education is lower than other education levels, so the income is lower. Therefore, the draft resolution on increasing allowances for preschool teachers is a very humane policy, motivating us to stick with the profession. This information makes our school staff and teachers in particular and preschool teachers in general very happy. I hope this policy will be implemented soon,” said Ms. Huong.

According to the Labor Code, each working day should not exceed 8 hours, but in reality, preschool teachers have to work from 10 to more than 11 hours. At Phu Viet Kindergarten (Thach Ha), each day of the teachers starts at 6:00 a.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (when the last child is picked up and sent home). The work is hard, stressful, and there is not much time for family, but the teachers here are always diligent in sticking to the school and the class. Therefore, increasing the preferential allowance is a worthy recognition for preschool teachers.

Based on the 10% increase for teachers in favorable areas, the lowest paid teacher in our school will receive an increase of more than 600 thousand VND, the highest paid teacher will receive about more than 1 million VND. Although not much, the increased allowance will help preschool teachers worry less and feel empowered to stick with their profession.”

Although there are many difficulties ahead, the information about increasing preferential allowances for preschool teachers is good news, bringing great motivation to nearly 5,000 preschool teachers in Ha Tinh in general and hundreds of thousands of preschool teachers across the country to continue to maintain their love for the profession and sense of responsibility in the career of "nurturing the future".

In addition to teaching and taking care of children, teachers at Son Loc Kindergarten (Can Loc) also take care of the vegetable garden to improve meals for the children.

Preschool teaching is a hard and stressful job, but the current salary and allowances are still quite low.
