Mekong Delta Tourism: Creating Highlights from Culture and Landscape

For provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta, the merger is an opportunity for localities to transform, adapt flexibly, and create new developments and momentum for tourism activities.

Tourism in many localities of the Mekong Delta continues to record many positive results, creating momentum for new developments thanks to the development of diverse tourism products, creating highlights from natural landscapes, diverse ecosystems and cultural experiences associated with historical relics, agricultural production activities, craft villages, and culinary specialties.

Impressive results

In the first six months of 2025, many localities in the Mekong Delta continued to effectively exploit natural tourism resources and indigenous cultures, serving tourists with many tourism products "only available in the Mekong Delta" such as: experiencing the river space, orchards, visiting craft villages, traditional crafts, associated with the ecosystem of mangrove forests, cajuput forests, seas, islands in the Southwest of the country, and cuisine of ethnic communities in the delta.

According to information from the tourism industry of Kien Giang province, in the first 6 months of this year, the province welcomed over 7 million visitors (Phu Quoc city alone welcomed over 4.4 million visitors), total revenue from tourism reached nearly 21,600 billion VND, an increase of over 92% over the same period in 2024.

Tourism products associated with the sea and islands of Phu Quoc city, Ha Tien, eco-tourism of U Minh Thuong National Park , tourism associated with historical and cultural relics in Rach Gia city, Hon Dat district, Kien Luong... continue to be chosen by many tourists.

At the same time, tourism in Ben Tre province in the first 6 months of 2025 also achieved positive results with over 1.5 million visitors, an increase of nearly 19% over the same period in 2024.

Destinations are historical and cultural relics, eco-tourism associated with fruit growing areas, craft villages producing rice paper, coconut candy... along with some tourist destinations in coastal localities such as Ba Tri, Thanh Phu with many positive signals in attracting tourists.

As for tourism in the land of "Pink Lotus," the unique feature is that many agricultural production sites are associated with key industries such as flowers and ornamental plants, lotus, mango, catfish... and are also community tourism sites.

Dong Thap tourism in the first half of 2025 is estimated to welcome over 2.6 million visitors, with tourism revenue estimated at over 1,400 billion VND, an increase of more than 27% over the same period in 2024.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Thap province, over 100 community tourism spots associated with agricultural production, craft villages, historical-cultural relics, many tours and routes associated with natural landscapes and cultural features of Dong Thap people have been creating deep impressions on tourists such as: rural market models, tours "Tram Chim sunrise and sunset", "Sa Dec - Love of the land of flowers", "Colors of the border region - land of pink lotus" ...

Ready for new developments

At this time, along with many localities across the country, localities in the Mekong Delta are ready to merge and put the new provincial and communal apparatus into operation from July 1.

From the perspective of tourism economic development, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration Ha Van Sieu said that the merger is an opportunity for localities to transform, change, and adapt flexibly, creating new steps of development and momentum for tourism activities.

According to the representative of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Thap province, merging with Tien Giang province to become the new Dong Thap province, Dong Thap tourism will certainly have new changes.

On the basis of promoting the advantages of the ecosystem and natural landscape of Dong Thap Muoi sub-region, new Dong Thap tourism will continue to position the tourism brand associated with the local cultural identity; perfect and improve the quality of eco-tourism products - resorts, agriculture, rural areas, experience of craft villages, cuisine, waterway tourism in line with the trend of developing green and sustainable tourism.

Similarly, the merger of Kien Giang and An Giang into the new An Giang province is expected to open up space and development opportunities for many industries and fields, including tourism.

According to the leaders of Kien Giang province, in the coming time, one of the highlights of tourism in the new An Giang province will be to build Phu Quoc into a center of high-quality services, eco-tourism, sea and island tourism of national and international stature, while promoting the development and completion of connecting tourist routes, exploiting to the fullest the potential of a locality possessing many tourism resources from sea and islands to historical, cultural, spiritual relics , craft villages, associated with the lives of ethnic communities living in the area.

Vice President of the Mekong Delta Tourism Association Le Thanh Phong said that with the goal of continuing to improve the destinations and tourism products of the Mekong Delta, the Association has just organized a survey and assessment to newly recognize or re-recognize a number of typical tourist destinations in the Mekong Delta.

This is to facilitate localities and destinations to develop and introduce to tourists many high-quality tourism products, attractions and entertainment, associated with the historical, cultural and natural landscape characteristics of the region, increasing the attraction of tourism in the Mekong Delta - one of the key tourist areas of the country./.
