According to travel agencies, the number of Vietnamese tourists traveling to China through Lao Cai International Border Gate accounts for a large proportion of the total number of people entering and exiting the country. From the beginning of the year to April 2025, it is estimated that about 200,000 to 300,000 Vietnamese tourists will exit through this border gate, an increase of 20-30% compared to the same period in 2024.
Popular destinations in China are Hekou, Mengzi, Kunming, Dali and Lijiang. Tour costs range from VND2,500,000 to VND6,500,000, with a duration of 2-5 days. It is expected that during the April 30 and May 1, 2025 holidays, the number of Vietnamese tourists traveling to China through Lao Cai International Border Gate will reach more than 40,000 during the 5-day holiday.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Duy, Executive Director of Binh Minh Tour Lao Cai Tourism shared: According to the unit's records, during the April 30 - May 1 holiday this year, the number of visitors is expected to increase slightly compared to the same period last year. Tourists choosing tours to China have increased significantly, especially tours: 3 days 2 nights, 4 days 3 nights, or 5 days 4 nights. Most of these tours depart from Lao Cai border gate, traveling by road, car or train - means of transport that are very popular with customers. In order to meet the increased demand of tourists during this long holiday, the unit has closely coordinated with Chinese partners to fully prepare tour guides. At the same time, we also increase the service force during peak hours, to provide maximum support for the process of exit and entry procedures at Lao Cai International Border Gate".
With a convenient location, developed transport infrastructure and increasingly improved tourism support services, Lao Cai is becoming an important transit center for international tours, especially trips to China during long holidays.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Dieu Linh, a tourist from Nam Dinh, said: This year's holiday is long, so my family chose to travel to Hekou (China). With reasonable travel and accommodation costs, suitable for economic conditions, her family chose a 3-day, 2-night tour, mainly visiting the area near the border gate.
Travel agencies are focusing on improving the quality and diversifying tours through Lao Cai border gate. Popular tour types include sightseeing, cultural experiences, shopping and culinary enjoyment. The vibrant holiday tour market not only helps increase revenue but also contributes to promoting Lao Cai international border gate, making Lao Cai an attractive destination on the regional and international tourism map.
