Vietnam tourism wins big on Lunar New Year

Hanoi has the second largest number of visitors in the country.

On the afternoon of February 2, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism ( Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ) said that during the Lunar New Year 2025, the whole country is expected to welcome and serve 12.5 million domestic visitors, an increase of about 19% over the same period in 2024. The average room occupancy rate at some destinations is quite high, typically Sa Pa (Lao Cai) is about 90 - 95%; Kien Giang is estimated at 73.4%; Ho Chi Minh City is estimated at 65%; Hue City is estimated at 63%...

The Lunar New Year holiday also recorded a high number of visitors in many localities. Ho Chi Minh City ranked first, with an estimated 2.1 million arrivals, up 16.7%; total revenue from tourists is estimated at about VND 7,690 billion, up 17.4% over the same period in 2024. Hanoi ranked second in the country, with an estimated 1 million arrivals, up 6%; total revenue from tourists is estimated at VND 3,530 billion, up 7.85% over the same period in 2024.

Quang Ninh is estimated to welcome 969,000 visitors; an increase of 21%; total revenue from tourists is estimated at VND 2,665 billion, an increase of 71% over the same period in 2024. Ba Ria - Vung Tau is estimated to welcome 869,433 visitors, an increase of 27.09%; total revenue from tourists is estimated at VND 558.4 billion, an increase of 23.78% over the same period in 2024. Khanh Hoa is estimated to welcome 825,195 visitors, an increase of 30.6%; total revenue from tourists is estimated at more than VND 1,246 billion, an increase of 41.7% over the same period in 2024. Thanh Hoa is estimated to welcome 675,000 visitors, an increase of 9.7%; total revenue from tourists is estimated at about VND 570 billion, an increase of 12.6% over the same period in 2024.

Notably, the number of international arrivals has increased in many localities. Specifically, Quang Ninh is estimated to welcome 228,700 visitors; Da Nang is estimated to welcome more than 228,000 visitors, an increase of 29% over the same period in 2024; Quang Nam is estimated to welcome 157,000 visitors, an increase of 40% over the same period in 2024; Hanoi is estimated to welcome 142,000 visitors, an increase of 15.8% over the same period in 2024; Ho Chi Minh City is estimated to welcome 87,358 visitors, an increase of 16.5% over the same period in 2024.

According to Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Trung Khanh, the number of international visitors to Vietnam will continue to increase compared to the same period in 2024 thanks to the effect of favorable visa policies, the right direction in restructuring the tourist market and the efforts of businesses and localities in renewing products and promoting activities.

Diverse Tet tourism products

This year, the Lunar New Year holiday lasts 9 days and the weather is favorable, so tourism activities are vibrant and bustling in almost all tourist destinations in the country. Tourists tend to choose famous heritage, spiritual and cultural destinations in the localities. In addition, destinations in the northern mountainous region also attract many visitors from the south.

To welcome guests during the Lunar New Year 2025, most destinations have renovated and redecorated the landscape; launched many new tourism products to attract domestic and international visitors to visit and experience. Typically, Hanoi organized "Vietnamese Tet - Street Tet 2025" in the Old Quarter, "Vietnamese Village Tet" in Duong Lam ancient village, the program "Light Concert - Welcome New Year 2025" in Tay Ho district... Ho Chi Minh City organized many events, promoted with the message "Ho Chi Minh City welcomes you", organized spring tours to Thu Duc, Spring returns at Binh Dong wharf. Quang Ninh organized cruises to see Ha Long Bay, visit the "flower paradise" at Sun World Ha Long, enjoy the performance "Around Tet Viet Nam"...

In addition, many localities have coordinated with airlines and travel agencies to welcome "first-foot" guests, creating excitement for tourists on the first day of the new year. Some localities with international seaports have organized to welcome cruise ship tourists during the Lunar New Year 2025, such as: Da Nang welcomed 1,800 American and British guests; Quang Ninh welcomed 4 cruise ships with a total of 6,000 guests and 4,000 crew members to "first-foot"...

The Lunar New Year also saw major travel agencies such as Hanoitourist, Saigontourist, Vietravel, Vietnam Tourism... develop many new tour programs with many attractive programs and promotions. Overseas tours continue to attract many Vietnamese tourists with choices including the Northeast Asian market (China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea), followed by the Southeast Asian market (Thailand, Singapore) and Europe and America.

Assessing tourism activities during the Lunar New Year, Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Trung Khanh said that tourism activities in the first days of the new year of At Ty 2025 were quite vibrant, joyful, and attractive, opening up a positive signal for tourism nationwide in 2025.
