The German team traveled to Luxembourg with the pressure of winning to maintain the top position in the group. Although they were highly rated, coach Julian Nagelsmann and his students had a difficult night of competition.

Germany's stalemate in the first half left fans worried. Despite the presence of a host of expensive attacking stars, coach Julian Nagelsmann's style of play was almost paralyzed by Luxembourg's disciplined defense.
It wasn't until the 49th minute that the deadlock was broken for Germany. Nick Woltemade opened the scoring after a lightning-fast combination play and a classy assist from winger Leroy Sane. This strike helped the "tank" regain its rhythm after a forgettable first half.
Just 20 minutes later, striker Nick Woltemade continued to shine brightly. The Newcastle star completed a double, bringing his total number of goals for the national team to three, thereby sealing a hard-fought 2-0 victory for Germany against Luxembourg (ranked 97th in the world ).
With this important victory, Germany now has 12 points and leads Group A, equal on points with Slovakia but ranked higher due to the extra index. Coach Nagelsmann's team will have the "final" match to compete for a direct ticket to the 2026 World Cup with Slovakia in the last match on November 18. They only need a draw to win the top spot in the group.
Meanwhile in Group G, the draw in Warsaw between Poland and the Netherlands was a calculated result, helping the Netherlands get very close to the official ticket.
Poland needed to win to keep their hopes alive. The home side took the lead late in the first half after a superb pass from Robert Lewandowski set up Jakub Kaminski to open the scoring in the 43rd minute.
It took the "Orange Storm" just a few minutes after the break to restore balance. Memphis Depay quickly kicked the ball close to the goal after the Polish goalkeeper's effort to block in the 47th minute to equalize 1-1 for the Netherlands.

With this result, the Netherlands (17 points) is now 3 points ahead of Poland with a superior goal difference (19 vs. 6). Coach Ronald Koeman's team is almost 99% certain to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. In the final round, they only need not to lose too much to bottom-placed Lithuania to officially advance. Poland will most likely have to look for a chance through the play-off round.
