On June 18, news from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Binh province said that with the increasingly serious situation of locusts destroying crops of people in the area of Viet Trung Farm town, Bo Trach district, the authorities decided to choose the option of using drones to spray pesticides.
Authorities and local people use drones to spray pesticides to kill locusts.
It is known that recently, locusts suddenly appeared densely in some areas of Nong truong Viet Trung town, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh . Locusts have destroyed dozens of hectares of bamboo shoots of local people. Faced with the increasingly large damage caused by locusts, local people and authorities have used manual measures to destroy them but the effectiveness is not high.
Locust outbreak appeared and destroyed crops in Viet Trung Farm town, Bo Trach, Quang Binh.
Locals said that bamboo shoots are a type of tree that can regenerate quickly and provide year-round income from bamboo shoot exploitation. However, recently, when locusts ate all the leaves, the tree's ability to recover was greatly reduced, directly affecting the bamboo shoot yield and many trees withered and died.
According to Mr. Tran Dinh Hiep - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Binh, locusts mainly cause damage in bamboo forests far from residential areas. The use of drones helps spray pesticides on a large area while still ensuring safety, limiting environmental pollution and impact on people's lives. In areas near residential areas, people proactively apply manual measures such as catching nets, releasing poultry to eat locusts, collecting them for composting or destroying them. Due to the high density of locusts, prevention requires synchronous coordination between people and authorities.

Currently, the Quang Binh agricultural sector is coordinating with the People's Committee of Bo Trach district to assess the extent of damage, monitor the development of the pest and develop a plan to support production if necessary. Preventive measures are being urgently deployed to prevent the risk of locusts continuing to spread in the area.
