Stop construction of Dak Mi 1 Hydropower Plant to determine the cause

Regarding the serious labor accident at Dak Mi 1 Hydropower Plant ( Kon Tum ), the Ministry of Construction has just sent a document to the People's Committee of Kon Tum province regarding the investigation of the cause of the incident.

Document No. 77/BXD-GD dated January 6, 2025 sent to the People's Committee of Kon Tum province, clearly stated: to deploy the work of assessing the cause of the incident, ensuring construction safety and compliance with legal regulations, the Ministry of Construction requested the People's Committee of Kon Tum province to direct the temporary suspension of construction , paying special attention to areas and construction items at risk of unsafety to take preventive measures to ensure construction safety.

At the same time, organize the protection of the incident scene to serve the work of determining the cause of the incident and carry out other contents on resolving construction incidents according to regulations on quality management, construction and maintenance of construction works.

In addition, the Ministry of Construction requested the Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee to collect construction documents including: documents on preparation of construction investment and contracts; documents on construction survey and construction design; documents on quality management and safety in construction; documents on capacity of the subjects participating in construction to serve the work of assessing the cause of the incident. Along with that, the Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee (together with the Ministry of Industry and Trade ) sent representatives of the leaders of the affiliated professional agencies to participate in the Dak Mi 1 Hydropower Project Incident Investigation Team.

Previously, Knowledge and Life reported: at around 3:00 a.m. on December 31, 2024, during the pouring of concrete for the spillway, a serious labor accident occurred, causing the scaffolding to collapse, killing 5 workers. Authorities found 3 bodies, 2 people were missing. By January 2, authorities had found the remaining 2 bodies.

Dak Mi 1 Hydropower Plant has a capacity of 84 MW and is located in Dak Choong commune, Dak Glei district , Kon Tum province . The project has a total investment of more than 3,500 billion VND. The project started in 2009 but has not been completed yet...
