Gia Lai is gradually replanting rows of green pine trees, replacing many ancient trees that have fallen due to storms and time. But that is still not enough…
In the memories of those who lived in Pleiku (Gia Lai) before the 1980s, Pleiku was covered with green pine trees, many ancient trees, such as on Tran Hung Dao, Hai Ba Trung, Nguyen Du streets... with two rows of tall straight pine trees. The many pine trees planted give the mountain town a very unique beauty, both familiar and attractive. "Pleiku has a sky of pine leaves/ A sky with umbrellas, a sky with canopies/ The sun shines brightly, burning each thin thread/ The wind whispers and sings forever a divine song" - (Poem by Pham Duc Long).
As time goes by, with the rapid development of society today, pine trees and the green tree system in the city gradually give way to roads, houses, supermarket systems, hotels, etc. Green trees in the city have also been diversified with many types of trees such as: ca ca, milk flower, banyan, lagerstroemia, black star, otter oil, etc. But, pine trees are still the most loved by people!
In Gia Lai, there are two hundred-year-old pine trees: the pine trees in “Bien Ho Tra”, Bien Ho commune - a very famous place for people to visit and relax, and the pine trees in the residential area of the provincial Radio and Television Station. However, most of the ancient pine trees have gradually disappeared over time.
To create its own mark, Gia Lai needs to plan and renovate the green tree system with the typical pine tree, because this place has an average altitude of 800m above sea level, fertile basalt soil, cool climate all year round, very suitable for this type of tree to grow. Planning the streets, the rows of trees are all pine, wherever you go you will see pine, tourists will leisurely walk under the pine canopy, creating a strong impression for visitors when coming to the mountain town. In addition, planting pine makes the land more romantic, more attractive in the mist.
Nowadays, many people have to live in cramped, crowded cities to make a living. When they have time, they will go to cool, quiet cities with lots of trees to rest and relax. To make Gia Lai city an impressive destination choice, "with slopes, with fog, pine trees create a unique feature and identity of Pleiku". (Pleiku is covered with green pine trees - Van Cong Hung).
With the trend of developing into a "green city" by 2030, Gia Lai needs a more specific plan, in which the number of trees, especially pine trees, should be noted to contribute to the ecological balance in the area, helping the air of the city become cooler and fresher, beautifying the landscape and creating a green environment in the city.
Avoid the situation like Da Lat, known as the city of thousands of pine trees, has long been an interesting tourist destination for visitors, but now the amount of pine trees and greenery in the city has decreased significantly. Tam Dao and Sapa are also the next addresses where urban development has changed the ecological environment with dry concrete blocks, along with expensive services, losing the attractiveness for many tourists when coming to this place.
Currently, Pleiku, Gia Lai is replanting pine trees but they are still scattered. Restoring the green pine city, a once characteristic of the mountain town, is the desire of not only local people but also tourists who love this land.
