Gia Lai is gradually replanting lush green pine trees, replacing many ancient trees that have been broken and fallen due to storms and the passage of time. However, that is still not enough…

In the memories of those who lived in Pleiku (Gia Lai) before the 1980s, Pleiku was covered in lush green pine trees, many of them ancient, such as on Tran Hung Dao, Hai Ba Trung, and Nguyen Du streets… with two rows of tall, straight pines. The abundance of pine trees gave the mountain town a unique beauty, both familiar and captivating. “Pleiku, a sky of pine needles / A sky with umbrellas, a sky with canopies / The sun blazes down, burning each delicate ray / The wind whispers, singing its magical song forever” - (Poem by Pham Duc Long).

As time passes and society develops rapidly, pine trees and urban greenery gradually give way to roads, houses, supermarkets, hotels, etc. Consequently, the variety of trees in the city has increased significantly, including species like: Terminalia catappa, frangipani, Terminalia catappa, Lagerstroemia, Dipterocarpus spp., and Dipterocarpus spp. However, pine trees remain the most beloved!

In Gia Lai, there are still two century-old pine trees: the pine trees at "Bien Ho Tea Plantation" in Bien Ho commune - a very popular place for people to visit and relax - and the pine trees in the residential area of the Provincial Radio and Television Station. However, most of these ancient pine trees are gradually disappearing over time.

To create its own unique identity, Gia Lai needs to plan and renovate its green spaces with pine trees, as the area has an average altitude of 800m above sea level, fertile basalt soil, and a cool climate year-round, making it ideal for pine growth. Planning for streets and rows of pine trees, so that everywhere you go you'll see pines, allowing tourists to stroll leisurely under their canopies, will create a strong impression on visitors to this mountain town. Furthermore, planting pine trees will make the area even more romantic and captivating, especially in the mist.

Nowadays, many people have to live in cramped, crowded cities to make a living. When they have time, they seek out cool, quiet cities with lots of greenery to rest and relax. This makes Gia Lai city an impressive destination choice, "with its slopes, its fog, and its pine trees creating a unique characteristic and identity for Pleiku." (Pleiku, with its lingering green pines - Van Cong Hung).

With the goal of becoming a "green city" by 2030, Gia Lai needs a more specific plan, paying attention to the number of trees, especially pine trees, to contribute to ecological balance in the area, making the city air cooler and fresher, beautifying the landscape and creating a green environment in the urban area.

To avoid a situation like Da Lat, known as the city of a thousand pine trees, which has long been an attractive tourist destination but now has a significant decrease in pine trees and greenery, Tam Dao and Sapa are also next places where urban development has altered the ecological environment with harsh concrete structures and expensive services, diminishing their appeal to many tourists.

Currently, Pleiku, Gia Lai is replanting pine trees, but they are still scattered. Restoring the city's once-distinctive green pine forests is a long-awaited aspiration not only of the local people but also of tourists who love this land.
