The road to success is not measured by city lights.

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - In 2017, Tran Duy Trinh (born 2000, living in Thanh Hoa City), a student majoring in Mathematics at Lam Son High School for the Gifted, won first prize of the month in the "Echoes of Thanh" Contest; then passed the entrance exam to the Mechatronics Engineering Technology Department, University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. It was thought that the path ahead for this Gen Z guy would promise much success, however, after only 2 years of university, Trinh decided to stop studying to find another direction.

The road to success is not measured by city lights.

Tran Duy Trinh - the young man who "left the city to return to the countryside" to sell groceries to help his parents and develop his passion for media.

Trinh made this decision because he felt that the major he was studying was not suitable for him. From 2020 to 2024, he worked many different jobs, from content writer, gym receptionist to working at a stuffed animal store. Finally, he realized his passion was communications and decided to pursue this field. At the end of 2024, Trinh decided to return to Thanh Hoa to be able to take care of his family and develop his communications career.

Trinh shared: "After working for many years in Hanoi , I realized that there is too much fierce competition in Hanoi while in my hometown, media is still a fairly new field."

With that in mind, Trinh left the spotlight of the big city to do simple jobs in the countryside, such as helping his parents sell groceries and doing communications for local businesses. Thanks to his experience working in Hanoi, he quickly caught up and was highly appreciated. However, what Trinh found most valuable was not just career prospects, but the balance: being able to go to work, then come home to eat with his parents, see that his relatives were still healthy, and overcome difficulties together.

Trinh posted her story on Tiktok with the title "Accepting to be an ordinary person is not so simple", attracting much attention and sympathy on this social network. In an era where social networks are flooded with flashy images, showing off achievements, luxurious trips or "hundred million/month" jobs, Trinh's daring to tell a story of leaving the city to return to the countryside has become a strange breeze attracting more than 10 million views and nearly 800,000 interactions, thereby also showing the spread of a simple message: live truthfully, know who you are and dare to choose what you believe is right.

Trinh confided: "In the past, when I had a few small achievements, I had the illusion that I was more talented than everyone else and fell asleep on my laurels, but when I faced real life, I realized that what I knew was very small. Now there is no first prize, no title, but I am satisfied because I can go home, live with my parents and do what I like while still having a very good income and many opportunities for development. Before, I thought that going back to my hometown was a failure, but now I see that it was a more correct step for me."

Currently, Trinh is a communications officer for a company in Thanh Hoa, and continues to create content on social networks. He hopes to inspire many other young people to think that: success does not necessarily have to go hand in hand with the halo, but sometimes it is about doing what you love with the people you love.

In the minds of some young people of Gen Z today, “returning to the countryside” used to be associated with the image of failure and falling behind. Many young people assume that only big cities are places to develop, get rich and assert themselves. However, the reality today is different: returning to the countryside is no longer a step backward, but is becoming the pioneering choice of many young people with independent thinking and the desire to contribute to the community.

Trinh is helping today’s young people see that their hometown - a place with little competition, lots of potential and a thirst for innovation - is the “fertile land” for young people to take root and get rich from their own local values. Returning to their hometown to start a business is not only the right direction in the context of overloaded urbanization, but also contributes practically to the development of the country, reducing regional gaps, preserving cultural identity and developing the local economy in a sustainable way.
