Duong Minh reappears after being jailed for drunk driving
The Star reported on May 16 that on May 15, the once-famous TVB actor Duong Minh surprised everyone when he appeared at the promotional event for the movie "Night Beauties".
Duong Minh reappeared at the event on May 15.
This film also marks his return after the scandal of being imprisoned for 18 days for drunk driving and causing an accident in December 2022.
Duong Minh said that in the past few months, he has spent time thinking about his past mistakes. The actor understands that having been in prison will make the audience and public opinion look at him differently.
"This is the truth. I am not afraid, because this is a necessary punishment. I will always try to become a better version of myself in the future," the actor affirmed.
Talking more about his current situation, he said he has quit drinking, only at parties, he will taste a little.
HK01 said the scandal and prison sentence have severely damaged the artist's reputation. He is said to have been restricted from performing by TVB over the years.
However, Duong Minh only answered briefly when asked about this information: "There is no mention of whether I am the first or second star, we just act according to the script."
"Night Beauties" is a remake of the 2021 Taiwanese film "Light The Night". The film is about the complicated relationships between women in a nightclub. Ruby Lin invested 35 million USD and took 4 years to complete this film.
Duong Minh's series of alcohol scandals
In August 2020, Duong Minh was arrested for driving under the influence and causing a traffic accident. The Mercedes-Benz he was driving crossed into the opposite lane, crashed through nearly 60 meters of the median strip and hit a stone curb on the side of the road.
When police arrived at the scene, they found Duong Minh lying motionless in the car, reeking of alcohol. Two police officers had to take him to the emergency room.
Scene of Duong Minh's accident in 2020
On December 23, 2022, the actor was sentenced to 18 days in prison, suspended for 2 years, had his driver's license revoked for 2 years, and was fined $385 for "driving while intoxicated, causing an accident".
He was then released from prison a day earlier than the court's sentence. On the day of his release, Duong Minh tearfully told TVB's Scoop program: "During that time, I was very disciplined and lost my freedom. I thought about many things, reflected on what I had done and hoped that my appearance here would be a new beginning," he shared.
Duong Minh was released from prison on January 7, 2023.
This is not the first time Duong Minh has been involved with the law. In 2005, the actor was fined $900 and had his driver's license revoked for a year for illegal parking and a blood alcohol level above the limit.
In 2007, he was sentenced to 150 hours of community service for assaulting a nightclub security guard. That same year, he was arrested again for smashing and vandalizing a convenience store while drunk.
The actor's restaurant was also prosecuted by the environmental and food safety management agency for not having a business license.
