According to Big Hit Music, Jungkook - a member of the group BTS - is preparing to release a new documentary called "Jungkook: I Am Still", recording his 8-month journey before debuting as a solo artist.
The documentary will be released in theaters worldwide for a limited time, opening on September 18. It includes never-before-seen interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and Jungkook's performances.
When the information was announced, ARMY (BTS fan community) expressed their anticipation for this movie event. Many people booked tickets to see the movie.
However, according to Koreaboo, a part of ARMY is speaking out against the film's release.
Fans trended the hashtag #HYBEDivestFromZionism on social media, tagging HYBE in tens of thousands of posts related to the issue. Many emailed the company, hoping HYBE would cancel the premiere.
Previously, the trailer for the documentary “Jungkook: I Am Still” released on August 21 also caused controversy in the BTS fan community.
Many were unhappy with the English version of the trailer, which features the opening line: “From BTS… to global solo pop superstars.” The line flashes across the screen amid Jungkook’s voiceover, as he wonders if he could have achieved such widespread recognition without his group.
Fans were upset because the English version was shortened, downplaying BTS's value and achievements. While the Korean version reads in full: “21st century pop artist, BTS… Jungkook becomes a global pop star… Giving it his all.”
The English text's wording was not accepted by many fans, who felt it was a deliberate attempt to erase Jungkook's BTS member identity and turn him into an exclusively solo artist.
Many ARMYs suspect that this was the intention of Scooter Braun - CEO of HYBE America, the producer who played an important role in Jungkook's solo career.
“All Scooter Braun wants is what he had with Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, and he will do everything in his power to get it with Jungkook and Jungkook alone. He doesn't care about the band at all,” one fan commented.
