Tran Gia Bao's goal in the 90+5 minute helped U17 Vietnam have a historic draw against U17 Japan, thereby keeping alive the hope of winning a ticket to the 2025 U17 World Cup Finals.
The goal of the midfielder of Hoang Anh Gia Lai has exploded the media channels at home and abroad. In the early morning of April 8, a series of newspapers in the Southeast Asian region praised the brave fighting spirit of coach Cristiano Roland and his team.
After the match, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) website described Tran Gia Bao's goal with the following status: "Calm, brave and cool. Tran Gia Bao turned pressure into a magical moment!"
Meanwhile, Thailand's leading sports newspaper Siam Sport did not forget to praise the performance of Le Huy Viet Anh and his teammates. "Vietnam fought bravely to punish Japan in the final minutes. They showed the highest fighting spirit to get a draw against Japan. The important goal came in the 90+6 minute thanks to Tran Gia Bao," Siam Sport wrote.
The match between U17 Vietnam and U17 Japan took place on the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day (10th of the 3rd lunar month). More specifically, the historic draw against the reigning U17 champion Japan was also a meaningful gift that Tran Gia Bao and his teammates gave to the fans.
After the match, the official fanpage of the World Football Federation (FIFA) also sent congratulations to U17 Vietnam with the status line: "A wonderful gift on the anniversary of the Hung Kings". What is special is that FIFA mentioned the anniversary of the Hung Kings, an extremely sacred and meaningful holiday for the Vietnamese people.
The draw against U17 Japan gives U17 Vietnam the right to decide for themselves in winning a ticket to the 2025 U17 World Cup. In the final match, U17 Vietnam will face a direct competitor, the UAE, who just defeated Australia with a score of 2-0.
With the current situation in Group B, U17 Vietnam will only continue and win a ticket to the World Cup if they defeat UAE in the final round. Hopefully, the West Asian fate of Vietnamese football will once again come into play for Cristiano Roland's army in the 2025 AFC U17 Championship Finals.
