American car company Ford has just announced a $5 billion investment package to develop the Universal EV Platform and the exclusive Universal EV Production System. This is considered an important strategy, allowing the company to manufacture many different electric vehicle lines from sedans, SUVs to pickup trucks on the same chassis structure, optimizing costs and shortening production time.
Ford’s short-term goal is to launch a midsize electric pickup truck priced at around $30,000, the cheapest in the company’s history. The vehicle will still be equipped with advanced technology and a unique ability: power a house for 6 consecutive days.

The project applies the “assembly tree” model, which reduces the number of components by 20%, bolts by 25%, assembly area by 40% and increases production speed by 15%. The first double-cab electric pickup from this platform will be produced at the Louisville factory (Kentucky, USA), which is being upgraded with an investment of nearly 2 billion USD.
Ford says the car has a larger interior than the 2026 Toyota RAV4, a front trunk similar to the F-150 Lightning, a rear bed big enough to hold a surfboard, and the ability to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.5 seconds - on par with the Ford Mustang EcoBoost 2.3L turbo.

The highlight is the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack manufactured by Ford at Blue Oval Battery Park (Michigan, USA) with an additional investment of 3 billion USD. This battery technology allows the car to store enough energy for a household for 6 days, bringing high usage value in the context of increasing demand for backup power.
CEO Jim Farley likened the project to a historic gamble, similar to the launch of the Model T, a car that changed the global auto industry. He affirmed that Ford will manufacture entirely in the US, not import from Asia, to proactively supply the supply chain and promote domestic employment.
