Ford announced a recall on Thursday of 144,516 2022-2024 Maverick vehicles equipped with the Connected Touch Radio (CTR) system because "the rearview camera may freeze while the vehicle is in reverse," according to NHTSA. The issue increases the risk of an accident because the driver cannot see the surrounding environment accurately when driving in reverse.
Ford has recalled 144,516 2022-2024 Ford Maverick vehicles with Connected Touch Radio (CTR) because 'the rear view camera may freeze while the vehicle is in reverse'
The NHTSA report warns that the defect could “provide false information about the vehicle’s location,” leading to increased risk in traffic. The Ford Maverick, one of the most popular compact pickup trucks on the market, is also known for its fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain, seating for five, and the ability to carry up to 1,500 pounds of cargo in the bed. It starts at around $25,500, according to Capital One Auto Navigator.
Owners of affected vehicles will be asked to bring their vehicles to their nearest Ford or Lincoln dealership to have the CTR software updated. This service will be performed at no cost to customers. Recall letters are expected to be mailed by September 30. For assistance, owners can contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332, citing recall number 24S59.
Other issues related to Ford vehicles
In addition to the Maverick, Ford is also recalling 16,543 2022 F-150s for a problem with the parking lights. According to NHTSA, the parking lights may flash when the headlights are turned on, which reduces the driver's visibility while driving, especially in low-light conditions, creating a crash risk. This defect violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108, "Lamps, Reflectors, and Related Equipment." Ford has advised F-150 owners to take their vehicles to a dealer to replace the LED driver module at no charge. Letters about the recall will be sent out on October 7. In the meantime, owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, with recall number 24C30.

Previously, in May, Ford recalled nearly 243,000 Maverick vehicles in the US due to a taillight defect that did not illuminate, posing a danger to vehicles moving behind. This defect is said to originate from a faulty computer module, causing the taillights to not work while the vehicle is moving. However, the vehicle's headlights, turn signals, and brake lights still work normally.
Both recalls highlight the importance of ensuring the safety of drivers and other vehicles. Ford has pledged to make the repairs at no cost to customers. For the Maverick taillight recall, dealers will update the software to fix the problem, ensuring better visibility for other vehicles when driving at night.

According to the report, a total of 242,669 Maverick vehicles from the 2022-2024 model years are affected by these defects, with vehicles manufactured between February 2021 and March 2024. Although there have been no reports of accidents or injuries related to these defects, Ford has taken quick action to ensure the safety of its customers.
