While preparing for the match against Moldova in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers (1:45 a.m. on June 10), FIGC representatives also contacted Claudio Ranieri.

Gazzetta's source said Ranieri confided that he could not resist the invitation from the Italian team .

Ranieri has just left AS Roma after a period of impressive performance. He won the hearts of tifosi and helped the capital team of Rome qualify for the Europa League 2025/26.

After ending his coaching tenure, Ranieri was signed by the Friedkin family – Roma's owners – as a special advisor.

In his recent career, the “welder” Ranieri has stood out by repeatedly rushing into fire to rescue Cagliari and Roma. He is loved everywhere.

Famous for his enthusiasm, characteristic laughter and squinting eyes , Ranieri was excited by the invitation to "put out the fire" of Italy - the 4-time World Cup champion team but is at risk of missing the 3rd consecutive World Cup.

The 73-year-old coach's phone rang while he was watching the Roland Garros final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

He received the call with special emotion. It was not only his passion for the job, but also his special affection for the Azure team.

FIGC accepted Ranieri's plan to take on the role of Italy's head coach and advisor to the Friedkin family.
