Nearly 4,000 households in Quang Nam are struggling because of contaminated tap water.

The water from the tap is yellow and cloudy with black residue, making people afraid to use it.

According to the reflection of many households in Hoa Huong ward, the tap water source provided by Tam Ky Drainage Company was lost from early morning on May 16 until 11:30 am on the same day. But currently the water source is polluted, turning yellow and cloudy... directly affecting the daily life of the people.

According to records at the house of Ms. Doan Thi Kim Yen (residing in Huong Trung block, Hoa Huong ward), the water flowing from the clean water source is cloudy yellow with lots of sediment and scum, the family has to buy bottled water for cooking.

The water was suddenly cut off, and after it was restored, the pollution was not reported to the people by the supplier.

“When I woke up this morning, I found that there was no tap water. At first, I thought the water had been cut off because I hadn’t paid my bill. However, when I asked, the whole neighborhood was like that, but I didn’t receive any notice from the supplier. The water came back on at noon today, but the water source was polluted, I didn’t dare use it for anything. This isn’t the first time the tap water source has been like this,” Ms. Yen said indignantly.

It is known that the contaminated tap water source reported by the people is provided by Tam Ky Drainage Company under Quang Nam Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company. The unit is currently providing clean water to the entire Tam Ky City, with about 4,000 customers in Hoa Huong Ward alone.

About 4,000 customers in Tam Ky City are affected by water pollution.

Mr. Vo Khac Vinh, Deputy Director of Tam Ky Water Supply and Drainage Company, admitted that there was a situation where the domestic water of many households in Hoa Huong Ward was dirty and cloudy. The reason for the dirty and cloudy water and black residue was due to broken water pipes in the transmission network.

“The water pipe burst occurred at around 5am on May 16. As soon as the incident occurred, we mobilized forces to fix it. By 11:30am the same day, the company had basically fixed it. However, to make the water clear again, we continued to pump water to wash it away,” Mr. Vinh added.
