Coffee price today 19/1/2025
World coffee prices on both exchanges increased in the last session of the week. The USD had a week of decline after 6 consecutive weeks of increase and gold plummeted, helping capital flow into commodity exchanges, including coffee.
Domestic coffee prices increased by VND300-500/kg compared to last week, currently trading at VND118,300-119,500/kg. Despite the increase in supply, coffee prices remain high, helping farmers earn good incomes.
In the first two weeks of 2025, world prices fluctuated little. However, the market cooled down somewhat due to the gradual improvement in supply from Vietnam. According to the forecast of the Coffee and Cocoa Association (Vicofa), the harvest will reach about 90% of the area before Tet, domestic transactions are more active as the harvest season is nearing its end and farmers increase coffee sales before the long holiday.
At the end of last week, on the London exchange, the price of robusta coffee for delivery in March 2025 increased by 40 USD/ton (0.8%) compared to the end of last week. On the New York exchange, the price of arabica coffee for delivery in March 2025 increased by 4.5 US cents/lb (1.4%) last week. The market last week was supported by lower-than-average rainfall in Brazil, raising concerns about supply.
According to international reports, the new harvest, which is underway in the first three months of the 2024-2025 crop year, has started to flow into consumer markets. However, the harvest yield is uneven, increasing and decreasing in different regions, and although harvesting activities are still underway, there are concerns about availability and labor costs affecting the market.
Last year, world coffee prices continuously set new records, mainly due to concerns about supply shortages from major exporting countries such as Vietnam and Brazil due to unfavorable weather. The price gap between the two types of coffee on the market is an advantage for robusta. Coffee roasters believe that Arabica is quite high and have switched to buying more Robusta. The market is wide open for Robusta and is a great opportunity for Vietnamese coffee to continue to grow this year. In 2025, Vietnam's coffee exports will continue to grow as supply increases and consumer demand from countries around the world increases.

According to Vicofa's analysis of notable characteristics in the 2024-2025 crop season, up to now, more than 70% of the area has been harvested and will reach about 90% of the area before Tet.
Compared to many years, this year's harvest is much later. There are many new factors, first of all, unusual weather causes the rainy season to end late, off-season buying occurs frequently, especially storm No. 10 in the East Sea at the end of December 2024 causing widespread rain in the coffee growing areas of the Central Highlands.
It is known that coffee growers in the Central Highlands are replanting some new varieties, which also ripen later.
In terms of output, initial forecasts estimated a decline of 10-15%, but up to this point, experts are optimistic that output will only decrease slightly by about 5% compared to the same period last year. The reason is that at the beginning of the season, severe heat and drought affected many major coffee growing areas, but some areas still ensured enough irrigation water, so the yield was still quite good.
Industry experts also said that some newly replanted varieties have yielded higher than expected. Therefore, the actual decline in productivity for the entire crop year is not as high as initially forecast. Good yields and high coffee prices help coffee farmers earn better incomes than many other agricultural products.
This year, because farmers finished harvesting but were not in a hurry to sell, there were many goods but few transactions. That is the reason why in the fourth quarter of 2024, Vietnam's coffee export output decreased by more than 40% compared to the same period last year.
According to the Vietnam Industry and Trade Information Center (VITIC), Vietnam's coffee exports are gradually improving thanks to increased supply as the harvest season comes to an end. In the long term, Vietnam's coffee output is forecast to increase in the next few years thanks to effective replanting policies and high coffee prices, encouraging farmers to invest in their plantations. Despite many challenges, the Vietnamese coffee industry still maintains its competitive advantage thanks to stable output and high export value.
