Coffee price today April 23: Deep fall then strong recovery

At the end of the much-awaited trading session on the morning of April 23, the price of Robusta coffee on the London - UK exchange only decreased slightly from 16 - 22 USD/ton.

When the floor opened, coffee prices fell by three digits in all four terms, the deepest drop was 142 USD/ton but then recovered strongly.

Robusta coffee futures prices are as follows:

Delivery in May 2025: still 5,231 USD/ton (down 22 USD)

Delivery in July 2025: still 5,257 USD/ton (down 20 USD)

Delivery September 2025: 5,195 USD/ton (down 16 USD)

Delivery November 2025: 5,123 USD/ton (down 19 USD)

Converted according to the exchange rate, the price of Robusta coffee on the floor is from 131,800 - 134,500 VND/kg.

The updated domestic coffee price is 129,400 VND/kg in 4 days. The market has no reference price and there is a lot of conflicting information, making it impossible to predict the coffee price trend.

The coffee market is very unpredictable.

Mr. Nguyen Dac Dat, Director of Nga Thanh Trading Company Limited ( Dak Nong Province), said that he has taken over his family's coffee purchasing business for 12 years and has not seen any price changes from year to year, so he cannot find a pattern.

According to Mr. Dat, currently, buyers and sellers have not "matched" prices, so transactions are very few, mainly small, urgent orders from domestic roasters.

According to Mr. Dat, coffee can be stored in warehouses for 2-3 years while still maintaining its quality. In previous years, coffee production was abundant but recently it has decreased sharply. The reason is due to unfavorable weather, low productivity and many coffee growing areas being urbanized or converted to other crops with higher economic efficiency.

Arabica increased

This trading session witnessed a positive turnaround of Arabica when it increased from 2.25% - 2.27%, contributing to the recovery of Robusta prices. The May 2025 trading term increased by 180 USD/ton, to 8,220 USD/ton, equivalent to 211,500 VND/kg.
