Vinh Long synchronously deploys solutions to prevent African swine fever
The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Long province has just issued a plan to synchronously deploy measures to prevent and control African swine fever, in order to control the risk of spreading and protect livestock in the area. Accordingly, specialized agencies will strengthen supervision and closely monitor the situation to detect early and quickly handle new outbreaks.
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine is assigned to take samples for testing and differential diagnosis for herds of pigs showing suspicious signs, and at the same time destroy sick pigs or positive samples according to regulations, in order to cut off the source of infection.
Vinh Long also increased the activities of inter-sectoral inspection teams, strictly controlling the transportation of pigs and pig products in epidemic areas. The checkpoints operate 24/7 to minimize the risk of the epidemic spreading.
In addition, Vinh Long has deployed vaccination for healthy pigs in 11 communes and wards in the buffer zone, with more than 11,100 pigs expected to be vaccinated. Sanitation and disinfection work is continuously maintained in 15 communes with epidemics and threatened areas, and 11 communes in the buffer zone.
The province also stepped up propaganda, requiring farmers not to dump pig carcasses into the environment, to monitor their pigs daily and to immediately report to veterinary agencies when unusual signs appear.
