VPSA believes that the US's reciprocal tax exemption for some spice products is a positive signal, helping to reduce tax barriers for products that meet tax exemption conditions and creating opportunities for Vietnamese spices, especially pepper, to regain market share in the US if they fully meet import standards and quality certification.
However, reciprocal tax exemption does not mean total tax exemption; businesses must still comply with normal import taxes, customs regulations and food safety requirements. This policy only applies to the group of “qualified agricultural products”, so businesses need to check carefully with US partners and pay attention to non-tax risks such as SPS or traceability.
By the end of October 2025, Vietnam exported 206,427 tons of pepper, worth 1.39 billion USD. The US remained the largest market with 44,262 tons, down 29.4% year-on-year.
Thus, today's pepper price on November 16, 2025 in the country is trading around 144,000 - 145,500 VND/kg.
