Pig price news on April 22, 2025: Yen Bai farmers struggle between disease and unstable pig prices

Amidst the fluctuating price of live pigs today, pig farmers in Yen Bai are struggling to cope with a series of difficulties. Continuous epidemics, high input costs and unstable markets have made pig farming easier than ever.

Although Yen Bai city has deployed nearly 1,800 doses of swine fever vaccine and strictly controlled slaughtering, the risk of disease outbreaks is always present. Every time there is information about a new outbreak, pig farmers are once again worried. The cost of disease prevention, food, and medicine continues to weigh heavily on their already strained shoulders because of the unstable price of live pigs today.

The irony is that while the city’s total livestock herd has exceeded the plan by nearly 10%, farmers are still struggling to find outlets. They rely too much on traders, putting themselves at a disadvantage in pricing. Every time the price of live pigs plummets, many farmers have to sell at a loss, or even go bankrupt because they cannot bear it.

To escape this vicious circle, a synchronous solution from many sides is needed. The authorities should not only stop at vaccination but also support people in building a chain of links and finding stable markets. Farmers also need to be more proactive in grasping market information, closely monitoring today's live pig prices to make timely decisions.

Hopefully, with the efforts of both the government and the people, Yen Bai pig farming industry will soon regain growth momentum, helping people feel secure in sticking with the profession.
