Pig price today in the South. (Synthesis: Du Y)

In general, the live hog market on April 28 recorded a clear differentiation between regions. In the North, the price of live hogs remained stable around the average level. The Central - Central Highlands region had a clear differentiation, with some localities reaching high prices. Meanwhile, the South continued to be the region with the highest and most consistent price of live hogs nationwide.

Synchronizing solutions for sustainable and modern livestock development

The price of live pigs is high due to the decrease in supply after the Lunar New Year of At Ty - 2025, so herd import and herd restoration for farmers at this time is very important, according to Rural Economy Magazine.

However, to limit risks and bring economic efficiency when re-herding, a comprehensive solution is needed to strictly control food sources, environment, disease safety, digitalization, etc.

Since the Lunar New Year of At Ty - 2025, the price of live pigs in some provinces and cities has reached 80,000 VND/kg, the highest level in the past 5 years. The shortage of local pork supply in the country has pushed up pork prices.

For example, in Dong Nai, although accounting for 10% of the country's pig output, the output of live pigs for slaughter in the first quarter of 2025 increased by only 0.2% over the same period, while in the first quarter of 2024 it increased by 7% (if calculated by the number of pigs, March 2025 decreased by 109 thousand pigs compared to the same period in 2024); in Ho Chi Minh City, output decreased by 2.6% (the number of pigs decreased by 6.5%); Khanh Hoa decreased by 5.1%; Long An decreased by 4.5%.

In addition, in February 2025, the pig herd decreased due to businesses and households raising pigs to increase sales for consumption during Tet and festivals at the beginning of the year. The total pig herd (excluding suckling pigs) at the end of February 2025 was estimated at 26.8 million, down nearly 360,000 compared to the end of January.
