Pig price situation in the North
The price of live pigs in the Northern region has remained stable for many consecutive days. Bac Giang province continues to lead with 69,000 VND/kg. Localities such as Hanoi , Hung Yen, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Thai Binh all maintain the level of 68,000 VND/kg.
The provinces of Nam Dinh, Ha Nam , Ha Tinh, Ninh Binh, Yen Bai and Lao Cai continue to keep the price at 67,000 VND/kg.
Prices do not fluctuate much, helping the North avoid risks for farmers during the changing seasons - a time when diseases are likely to arise.
Pig price situation in Central Highlands
The Central region's live pig market on May 20 recorded a slight price adjustment. In Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa , prices simultaneously decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, bringing the transaction price to 69,000 VND/kg - leaving the 70,000 VND mark.
The main reason is that purchasing power in some central coastal provinces has not recovered after the holiday, while pig supply at farms is still abundant. These two provinces are the only places nationwide to record price decreases today.
In the Central Highlands and the South Central Coast, there were no changes in prices during the day. Dak Lak maintained the price at 72,000 VND/kg; while Lam Dong and Ninh Thuan maintained around 72,000 - 73,000 VND/kg. Binh Thuan remained at 73,000 VND/kg.
The current price level is considered positive in the context that some localities in the Central region have started to reduce prices.
In the short term, if market demand does not decrease, this area is likely to maintain its price level and not follow the adjustment trend of Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa.
Pig price in the Southern region
The South is still the place with the highest pork price in the country.
Long An, Tien Giang, Ben Tre and An Giang all maintain the level of 75,000 VND/kg - the highest in the region.
Provinces such as Dong Nai, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, Can Tho, Ca Mau, Hau Giang, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu and Ba Ria - Vung Tau are stable at around 74,000 VND/kg.
In Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Tay Ninh, the price remains around 73,000 VND/kg.
High and stable prices clearly reflect strong consumption demand in the South after the holiday, when the amount of pork needed for processing increased.
Market Overview May 20, 2025
The overview of the domestic pig market on May 20 shows that stability is the main trend, with only two central localities experiencing a slight decrease.
The North and Central Highlands kept prices unchanged, while the South continued to maintain high levels thanks to stable domestic demand.
The current stable trend offers hope to farmers, especially after a period of volatile prices.
In case the market continues to have no unusual variables such as disease or supply shortage, domestic pig prices are expected to continue to stay high in the near future.
Progress in livestock model development in Quang Nam
On the afternoon of May 16, the Department of Science and Technology of Quang Nam province held a meeting of the science and technology council to advise, evaluate and accept at the provincial level the project "Application of technical advances to develop a biosafety model of raising wild pigs in mountainous areas associated with linking product consumption in Dong Giang district", according to information from Quang Nam Newspaper.
At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Bong - the person in charge of the project said that the project has completed the transfer of two processes including the technique of raising wild pigs from Quang Nam mountainous areas in the direction of reproduction and the direction of commercial meat.
Thanks to this project, 20 technical staff were trained to master the two processes, and 80 farmers received technical training. The project also built a model of cooperation with enterprises and agricultural cooperatives in the region to promote the consumption of commercial pigs.
The model of breeding mountain pigs for reproduction has been implemented with a total of 72 pigs (including 12 males and 60 females) for 6 households in Jo Ngay commune and Ka Dang commune (Dong Giang), at breeding sites located in the local planning area.
The number of piglets that survived to the breeding season was 50 female pigs (84.72%) and 11 male pigs (91.6%). On average, each sow gave birth to 6.2 piglets/litter. A total of 755 piglets were born from three litters to date. The average birth weight was 0.45 kg/pig. The survival rate of piglets up to 2 months of age was 717/755 piglets (equivalent to 95%).
Next, the project also implemented a model of raising wild pigs in the mountainous areas of Quang Nam in the direction of commercial meat. The total number of commercial pigs still alive at the age of 8 months from three litters was 717, achieving a survival rate of 100%.
Dong Giang District Agricultural Technical Center - the project host - has signed a contract with Gia Phuc T&T Company Limited to ensure the supply of breeding pigs and purchase of commercial pigs from households.
The Council of Science and Technology assessed that the project “Application of technical advances to develop a biosafety model of raising wild pigs in mountainous areas associated with linking product consumption in Dong Giang district” had completed its objectives. The project helped farmers reduce production costs, increase profits and improve income compared to old farming methods.
