Northern pig price
In the Northern region, after a long period of maintaining stable prices, this morning (May 9), the price of live pigs increased by 1,000 - 2,000 VND/kg in many provinces and cities.
Specifically, localities such as Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Ninh Binh, Ha Nam and Nam Dinh still maintain the price of 67,000 VND/kg, while other areas trade live pigs at 68,000 VND/kg.
Pig price in Central Highlands
In the Central Highlands, the price of live pigs has clearly differentiated. Thanh Hoa and Nghe An both increased to 68,000 VND/kg. On the contrary, Quang Binh and Quang Tri recorded a decrease, down to 69,000 VND/kg and 68,000 VND/kg, respectively.
Currently, the price of live pigs in this area still has a significant difference, ranging from 67,000 - 73,000 VND/kg.
Southern pig price
The southern pig market also recorded a recovery trend after a long period of decline. In Ca Mau , the price of live pigs increased slightly to 74,000 VND/kg, while in Long An, it increased more strongly to 75,000 VND/kg, 2,000 VND/kg higher than yesterday.
The South is still the region with the highest pork price in the country, ranging from 73,000 - 75,000 VND/kg.
The main reason for the price increase is believed to be the strong recovery in demand after the holiday, when collective kitchens, restaurants, and schools resumed operations, leading to a sharp increase in pork consumption.
According to experts, if there are no major fluctuations in domestic demand or positive export signals, pork prices may be under downward pressure in the coming time. Localities that are maintaining high prices are also at risk of having to adjust if inventories increase and consumption does not improve.
In the context of a volatile market, farmers are advised to sell selectively according to traders' needs, while strengthening disease prevention to ensure healthy pigs, ready to supply when prices rebound.
Traders are also encouraged to be flexible in their purchasing and distribution strategies, and to regularly update price developments to avoid risks in the context of strong price differentiation.
According to a report by the Dong Nai Statistics Office, the province's pig herd reached 2.04 million (excluding weaned piglets), down 2.82% over the same period last year.
The reason is believed to be that the province continues to implement the planning of environmentally safe livestock farming areas, along with the recent sharp price increase, causing many livestock farms to take advantage of the opportunity to sell to optimize profits, causing the total herd to decrease. The average price of live pigs in Dong Nai in April was 72,000 VND/kg.
