Gia Lai: Many innovative models help escape poverty.

TPO - With many innovative and practical approaches, Gia Lai province is gradually demonstrating effectiveness in sustainable poverty reduction. Many economic development models not only help poor and near-poor households rise out of poverty but also create jobs, contributing to the fulfillment of new rural development criteria in localities.

Not just for getting rich

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province, the Thuan Nghia Vegetable Village model in Tay Son commune is not simply a place for growing clean vegetables, but also a place where farmers are "growing" hope and faith, as this model combines the production of clean agricultural products with the development of community tourism.

Here, organic vegetables not only appear on dinner tables but also become a tourism product, helping locals earn extra income from tourists visiting and experiencing the area.

In An Nhon Tay commune, the Bau Da rice wine making village continues to thrive every day. Not only are they preserving their traditional craft, but the people here are also asserting their position by linking tourism with local products – a direction that helps the village flourish in the modern era.

Meanwhile, in Hoai An commune, Mr. Dang Van Cap, with his fruit farm model, has proven that farming doesn't need to be large-scale, just done correctly. His farm ensures a stable income while creating jobs for many rural workers, gradually affirming that farmers can absolutely engage in systematic economic activities .

For example, Mr. To Vu Thanh Tin's household (Van Duc commune) is the owner of a pheasant and stingless bee farming model that generates billions of dong in income annually. This model has created jobs and stable income for 7 to 10 laborers from poor and near-poor households in the locality, and the model has been awarded the Third Class Labor Medal by the President of Vietnam.

Women rise to economic independence.

Gia Lai has many women who not only overcome difficulties but also lead their communities to progress. A prime example is Ms. Mai Thi Huong, who started with a small-scale fish sauce production model and has now built the Huong Thanh Cooperative (Quy Nhon Dong ward), providing employment for 30 workers, mostly poor women and seasonal laborers, with stable incomes.

Similarly, the An Nhon Agricultural-Industrial-Commercial Cooperative, chaired by Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet, is linking farmers to raise industrial chickens and cultivate lemongrass for essential oil extraction. Or take Ms. Huynh Thi Tuyet Nga, owner of the Phong Nga Cooperative, who is keeping the flame alive for the traditional confectionery making craft in Xuan An commune.

These women not only manage their family finances but also become a source of support for many other female workers to rise up.

Over the years, poverty reduction in Gia Lai province has received significant attention from the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee, and the Provincial Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front. This includes the issuance of numerous mechanisms and policies related to poverty reduction that are appropriate to the local situation and conditions, along with the active participation of all levels, sectors, organizations, and the general public. Furthermore, the province has strongly responded to the "Emulation Movement for the Poor, Leaving No One Behind" for the period 2021-2025.

Emulation movements have been launched from the provincial level to the grassroots, with diverse content, rich and practical forms, suitable to the actual conditions of each agency, unit, and locality, creating a strong transformation in awareness, actions, and sense of responsibility of all strata towards poverty reduction work.

The province's poverty reduction efforts in recent years have achieved positive results, improving people's lives and helping the poor and ethnic minorities access education, healthcare, and cultural services. Many poor households have risen out of poverty.

Gia Lai sees a significant reduction in the number of poor households, with many examples of sustainable poverty alleviation emerging.
