On the morning of May 5, 2025, rice prices in the Mekong Delta remained stable in the first trading session of the week. The market was generally quiet because many warehouses, traders and businesses were still on holiday, causing the volume of transactions to not be active again.
In the provinces, raw rice prices did not fluctuate much. OM 18 rice continued to be traded around 10,200 - 10,400 VND/kg, Jasmine rice remained at 17,000 - 18,000 VND/kg, while varieties such as CL 555, IR 504, OM 380, OM 5451 all maintained their familiar prices from around 7,700 to 9,750 VND/kg. In the export market, Vietnamese rice prices remained stable in early May. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), 100% broken rice is being sold at $323 per ton. 25% broken rice is priced at $368 per ton, while 5% broken rice remains at $395 per ton.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said that by the end of April, the Mekong Delta had basically completed harvesting the winter-spring crop. At the same time, localities had sown and planted about 735,000 hectares out of the total planned 1.48 million hectares for the 2025 summer-autumn crop.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade also informed that there are currently 152 enterprises nationwide that are qualified to export rice. Ho Chi Minh City is leading with 35 enterprises, followed by Can Tho with 33 units, Long An with 20, Dong Thap 14, An Giang 13 and Hanoi 11 enterprises. In April, the Ministry revoked the rice export eligibility certificates of 10 enterprises.
In Asia, Indian rice prices rose to their highest in nearly a month, mainly due to a stronger rupee despite weak demand. Meanwhile, Thai rice prices were unchanged due to ample supplies and low demand. Specifically, Indian 5% broken parboiled rice prices ranged from $390 to $397 per tonne, up slightly from last week. 5% broken white rice was also priced from $383 to $390 per tonne.
