Priority customs clearance of durian
On May 28, the Customs Department ( Ministry of Finance ) has just sent a document to the Customs Sub-Departments of the regions to direct the export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products and durian, in order to implement the requirements of the Prime Minister in Official Dispatch No. 59 dated May 8, Official Dispatch No. 71 dated May 23.
Implementing the Prime Minister 's instructions, the Customs Department requested the Regional Customs Sub-Departments to direct their affiliated units to facilitate and prioritize immediate customs clearance for export goods of agricultural, forestry and fishery products, especially durian and perishable goods, goods at the main harvest time; and promptly resolve any problems arising during the implementation of customs procedures for exporting goods.
In addition, closely coordinate with relevant agencies, regularly update the situation, promptly provide information on import policies and tariff policies of countries to enterprises exporting agricultural, forestry and fishery products through border gates in the area. The Customs Department requires strict handling of cases causing trouble for enterprises.
Previously, according to the Prime Minister's Official Dispatch No. 71 on a number of tasks to promote sustainable durian production and export, durian is one of Vietnam's agricultural products with fast growth rate and high export value, making an important contribution to the country's fruit and vegetable export turnover.
According to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, by 2024, the durian area will reach nearly 180,000 hectares, the output is estimated at 1.5 million tons, the export turnover will reach approximately 3.2 billion USD, accounting for 47% of the total export value of fruits and vegetables. The durian area will increase by an average of 19.5% per year in the period 2015 - 2024 and continue to expand rapidly.
However, recently, Vietnam's durian export has encountered many difficulties at some points, affecting the export scale, added value, and profits of producers and exporting enterprises.
The main reason is that some countries have applied additional control measures on durian exports from Vietnam. In addition, climate change is becoming more and more complicated; the rapid expansion and increase of durian acreage in some localities is potentially threatening the sustainable development of the durian industry.
