Severe measles cases on the rise

Many children develop severe disease on the basis of measles infection.

Of which, Bat Xat district has the highest number of measles cases with more than 1,000 cases; Bac Ha has more than 890 cases; Sa Pa has more than 750 cases...

Regarding treatment, up to now, more than 4,216 cases in the province have recovered, the number of cases under treatment is 371.

At the Provincial Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, the Department of Infectious Diseases and the Department of Emergency Resuscitation are treating over 20 children with measles, most of whom have complications of pneumonia and bronchopneumonia; 3 severe cases are being treated at the Department of Emergency Resuscitation and are on ventilators due to respiratory failure, sepsis, and pneumonia on the basis of measles infection.

According to Dr. Hoang Tung, Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Provincial Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital: When having measles, the patient will have both fever and rash, in some cases fever followed by rash, or allergic rashes are often not accompanied by fever. Therefore, when children show signs of fever or rash, parents need to take them to medical facilities for diagnostic tests and timely treatment, to prevent complications from worsening.

The health sector is speeding up measles vaccination.

According to doctors, most children with measles can recover, but for children from 1 month to under 1 year old, children who have not been vaccinated, have weak resistance... the disease can easily get worse, even lead to death. Therefore, vaccination is still the most effective solution to prevent measles. Currently, Lao Cai is implementing the third measles vaccination campaign in 8/9 localities (except Muong Khuong district, which has no subjects vaccinated in this round). Accordingly, up to now, the whole province has vaccinated 1,545 doses of measles vaccine, reaching a rate of over 80%.

Previously, on April 24, 2025, Lao Cai province received 2,000 doses of measles vaccine to implement the third phase of the vaccination campaign. Currently, the whole province has used 1,880 doses; the remaining number of doses is 120 doses; no cases of post-vaccination reactions have been recorded.
