BHG - Currently, the winter crop has become one of the important production crops, bringing a stable source of income to many farming households in Quan Ba district.
These days, in the vegetable field of Mr. Nguyen Duy Hung in Bo Lach hamlet, Quyet Tien commune, they are busy harvesting and taking care of the crops to serve the market near Tet. Mr. Hung said: “My family grows 0.5 hectares of cabbage and cauliflower to prepare for the market near Tet. Thanks to the weather suitable for these cold-climate plants, the plants grow and develop well, without much care. Especially at the end of this year, due to the erratic weather, vegetable prices have increased, farmers this year have a good harvest and better prices than last year.”

Considering the winter crop as the main crop, Quyet Tien commune has directed people to increase the coefficient of agricultural land use, early build a crop calendar, suitable variety structure, and plan production into safe and concentrated production areas. Vice Chairman of Quyet Tien commune People's Committee, Nguyen Van Tuan said: The commune People's Committee has built a specific winter crop production plan for each hamlet, dividing the planting area of crops suitable for each type of cultivated land. For vegetables, we propagate and mobilize people to choose new crops with high economic efficiency such as tomatoes, cauliflower, cabbage, etc. to replace traditional crops with low value; along with that, there needs to be solutions to protect crops when severe cold occurs.
In the fields of Tung Nun village, Lung Tam commune, people are focusing on growing winter tomatoes. Mr. Lu Sen Cao's family, this year planted more than 2,000 m2, thanks to learning about tomato growing methods from other households, this year he boldly planted more than 3,000 plants, importing seeds from Vinh Phuc . After 4 months of care, the plants have now been harvested right near Tet. It is expected that his tomato garden will yield more than 6 tons of fruit, with a selling price of 7,000 VND/kg, bringing in an income of about 30 million VND/crop. In recent times, localities in Quan Ba district have actively transformed the crop structure, developed winter crop production in the direction of improving productivity, product quality, increasing land use coefficient, and increasing income for people. Up to now, the whole district has planted over 1,290 hectares of winter crops, reaching 100.12% of the plan; In which some localities have large areas such as: Tam Son town planted 132 hectares; Quyet Tien commune planted 348 hectares; Quan Ba commune 89 hectares; Dong Ha 74.2 hectares...
This year, most localities continue to develop winter crop production in the direction of increasing economic value, prioritizing crops with good and stable consumption markets such as: Tomatoes, Cauliflower, Carrots, Potatoes, Green Peppers, etc. In addition, it is necessary to carry out good investigation, estimation, and forecasting to detect pests early and be proactive in prevention and control, instructing people on the use of pesticides. Thereby, helping to develop clean vegetable products, ensuring safety for consumers.
