Pepper price today August 15: Stable at high price

According to IPC's report, pepper import demand in major markets in the first half of the year was quite stable. Many countries have stockpiled enough goods for short-term needs. The US, despite a slight decrease of 3%, is still the largest importer, showing that demand remains stable thanks to a proactive purchasing strategy.

Experts predict that the US market will see a sharp increase in orders from the fourth quarter of 2025 to the first quarter of 2026 as businesses begin to stock up for the peak season. However, this time also coincides with the new harvests in Indonesia and Brazil, creating supply challenges. Pepper prices will be affected by fluctuations in the USD exchange rate and US tax policies.

2025 is the fourth consecutive year that world pepper output has decreased. It is forecasted that in the next few years, supply will still not be enough to meet demand, supporting pepper prices to maintain their upward momentum at the end of the year.

Vietnam's pepper growing area in 2024 is estimated at 113,000 hectares, down from 115,000 hectares in 2023 and further down from 151,900 hectares in 2017. It is expected that the area may continue to decrease to about 110,000 hectares in the coming time, while this year's output is estimated at 190,000 tons.

Brazilian ASTA black pepper prices were unchanged from yesterday at $5,850/tonne.

Malaysia's ASTA black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,250/ton. Meanwhile, the country's ASTA white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $12,500/ton.

In the first half of the year, China imported 4,979 tons of pepper worth US$31.95 million, up 7.6% in volume and 51.5% in value over the same period last year. The main sources of supply came from Indonesia, Vietnam and Brazil, accounting for nearly 97% of total imports.

Indonesia exported 2,738 tons to China, accounting for 55% of the market share, up 1.1% compared to last year. Vietnam ranked second with 1,653 tons, up 9.1% and accounting for 33.2%. Brazil reached 416 tons, up sharply 138%, accounting for 8.4% of the market share.

The average export price of Vietnamese pepper to China reached 7,164 USD/ton, much higher than the 5,894 USD/ton of Indonesia and 4,287 USD/ton of Brazil. This price also increased by 54% over the same period, while Indonesia increased by 38.9% and Brazil increased by 22.1%.

The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association said that exports to China improved in the first half of the year but did not make a breakthrough. In the second half of the year, demand is expected to continue to increase but is unlikely to reach the strong purchasing level of 2023 due to price competition pressure from Indonesia. Vietnam needs to apply a flexible pricing strategy and adjust delivery methods in accordance with market fluctuations.
