In its latest weekly report, IPC stated that the pepper market has recently shown major fluctuations, especially with leading producers and exporters such as Indonesia and Vietnam.

Indonesia entered its pepper harvest season in July, with high production expected in key growing areas. Inconsistent rainfall during the growing period has created favorable conditions for the formation and development of pepper berries. However, despite the expected good production, pepper prices may not be affected much due to hoarding by speculators who have been quick to snap up available supplies.

Meanwhile, in China, pepper prices have increased sharply in the past month in Hainan due to low production forecasts and domestic speculation. Since the beginning of the year, pepper exports from Vietnam to this market have decreased sharply. Data shows that China usually imports about 50,000 tons of pepper each year from Vietnam.

Low domestic production and speculation in China have forced the country to increase imports from Southeast Asian countries. This will be the driving force for growth in pepper exports from Vietnam and Indonesia at the end of this year.
