Gold prices jumped to $3,370 an ounce, nearly $40 higher than the previous day. The precious metal rose after a report showed low US inflation. Yesterday, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the consumer price index (CPI) in May increased 0.1% compared to April, lower than the previous forecast of 0.2%. Compared to the same period last year, the CPI increased 2.4%, in line with the forecast. Independent metals trader Tai Wong told CNBC that the unexpectedly low core CPI figure had pushed gold prices higher as yields and the US dollar weakened.

On the same day, President Donald Trump's administration is considering extending a 90-day tariff suspension for America's top trading partners, provided that these countries show "good faith" in negotiations. This signal was given by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent at an important hearing with Congress in Washington on June 11. Mr. Bessent revealed that the US has 18 "important trading partners" and the Trump administration is "looking towards agreements" with these countries.

This is the first time Trump administration officials have suggested extending the 90-day tariff suspension without at least “preliminary terms of a deal” before it expires. Trump’s 90-day reciprocal tariff suspension was announced on April 9 and is set to expire on July 9.../.
