At the conference, 100% of the members of the Executive Committee of the Can Tho City Party Committee voted to approve the Project on rearranging the city's commune-level administrative units (ADUs), including 32 communes and wards (16 wards and 16 communes). Of which, 4 communes will maintain their area and population, including Tan Loc ward (Thot Not district, because it is an islet on the Hau River, isolated), Truong Long commune (Phong Dien district), Thanh Phu commune, Thoi Hung commune (Co Do district) because they ensure sufficient area and population according to the new criteria.

Regarding the project to reorganize provincial administrative units, it is agreed to merge Can Tho City with Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces. After the reorganization, Can Tho City (new) has an area of ​​6,360 km2, a population of more than 4.1 million people, 103 administrative units, including 31 wards and 72 communes.

The political and administrative center is located in Can Tho today.

Concluding the meeting, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee Do Thanh Binh emphasized the work of propaganda, creating consensus and required each member of the City Party Executive Committee to have a firm grasp of the Central and City's policies on merger; if there are any questions, each person must be responsible for explaining and informing... to create the highest consensus in the political system and all people.

The Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee requested that after this meeting and the meeting of the Can Tho City People's Council on April 25, the Deputy Steering Committee and Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee direct the preparation of documents and procedures in accordance with the regulations of the Central Government and the Government to report to the Government as prescribed.

At the same time, each member of the City Party Executive Committee in the coming time must focus on the work of arranging administrative units, while still ensuring the work of their agencies and units; properly resolve policies for cadres affected by the arrangement, and do a good job of stabilizing political ideology...

Previously, on April 22, the Legal Committee of the People's Council of Can Tho City held a meeting to review the draft resolution and submission on the approval of the policy of rearranging administrative units in Soc Trang province, Hau Giang province and Can Tho city.

Can Tho City People's Committee has presented a report summarizing the results of collecting voters' opinions on the arrangement of administrative units in Soc Trang province, Hau Giang province and Can Tho city and the draft Project on the arrangement of Soc Trang province, Hau Giang province and Can Tho city.

Accordingly, 97.22% of voters in Can Tho City agreed to merge Can Tho City, Hau Giang Province and Soc Trang Province; 99.55% of voters in Hau Giang Province agreed and 96.80% of voters in Soc Trang Province agreed to merge.
